X-Series® Tone Driver® Overdrive Distortion We found that three was the perfect number of distortion pedals to start with. Each one utilizes DigiTech’s® exclusive multi-distortion technology, which gives you a near endless supply of distortion types compared to single distortion pedals found elsewhere. The three distortion pedals include the Metal Master™ for those who lean strongly towards head-banging for a living, the Hot Rod™ which delivers powerful, but smooth rock distortion, and the Tone Driver™ for guitarists who live for overdrive crunch. Each distortion stompbox features a huge range of different distortion types that can be morphed into different combinations as you rotate our exclusive Distortion Morph knob. This gives you a near unlimited supply of combinations. Now, you are no longer stuck with only one distortion type in a pedal. But that’s not all. There are two outputs, one for normal signal out, and one that features advanced cabinet modeling for live and recording direct-to-board applications. And instead of the standard stompbox tone controls, we’ve even incorporated our innovative spectral-contouring EQ, which delivers a far greater tone range than other distortion stompboxes.

Digitech XTD Tone Driver Overdrive Guitar Pedal
This pedal belongs to TS territory, it is not a distortion but a medium gain overdrive, if you appreciate what an overdrive can do for your rig this is a good one as it can transform the sound from a DOD 250 to a classic TS9 and beyond. It is solidly constructed and looks very durable, as all Digitech gear. Highly recommended as an overdrive or as a booster, if you are looking for a distortion, buy a pedal that says "distortion" on its label, it's that simple...

Nice device, just when the batteries go out
Nice device, just when the batteries go out, replacements don't work, and you have to have the correct AC/DC adaptor, with correct output and voltage, otherwise it won't work, so make sure you order Planet Waves 9 volt adaptor.

It dose what it say's it dose, TONE DRIVER. I'm very picky about tone and this box works very well for Me. If Your into Metal or Sherrding, then this isn't for Your chain.

Versitile and smooth
This device was made to do one thing and do it well. To provide you with a wide variety of good smooth overdrive with great tone. In over five decades of playing I've had many a pedal in my day, but for all out pure good smooth overdrive with exceptional clarity and tone, this is it. I was stunned how well it sounded from a multitude of amp and guitar configurations. Single coils sing. Big humbuckers are divine. The Morphing device within is the secret weapon I think. It's like a sweep of increasing drive and moulding of tone all wrapped into a single knob. Adjust gain to suit, and you're off and playing some of the best solid smooth overdrive you can ever expect from any device on the market. There are many that scoff at the Digitech line of pedals due to being affordable and view things being only good if they carry a heavy price tag. That's sad in a way that those people are missing out all in the name of vanity and trying to impress others by buying expensive things. They really are missing out on a great device, and in the end never improving their tone if they only would use their head and buy what is proven to be great and not what costs the most. And yes, this is an overdrive pedal. Not a distortion pedal. I believe one reviewer was unhappy with it as it didn't give him death metal sounds. Foolish to ever make that assumption really, but not as uncommon as it would appear. Many that are new to guitars and such make these mistakes and then blame their gear rather than an incorrect choice on their part. In time they too will learn what is the correct device for the job at hand.

Balanced reviewing.
I'm creating this review just for the purpose of balancing out that useless non-review below. A pedal that says "tone driver" shouldn't be bought, or reviewed, by somebody expecting to play thrash-metal. That's not what its intended for, at all.

not good
This was the first pedal i bought and i purchased it about 2 years ago. i play hair metal and some heavy and thrash, and this pedal does not work for me. its a well constructed pedal, very tough, but you just cant get an edgy sound outta it. the only thing ive got it work with is some bad company and ac dc. but if you try to get the metallica sound or a guns n' roses, warrant, ratt, or anything with a heavier set guitar range, it just wont work. bar chords sound terrible on it. so now im going to purchase metal zone pedals. not a good pedal in my opinion.

It sounds great, and gives you lots of tone options
It sounds great, and gives you lots of tone options. The only downside is that goes through 9-volt batteries pretty quickly. I'll be getting a DC adapter soon.
