While her last CD, Dakshina, had a bit more of a pop-Enyaesque sensibility, Moola Mantra is a much more meditative affair as Premal sings a single, 15-word Sanskrit mantra over the course of six lushly smooth Indian fusion arrangements. The disc is something of a mantra super session, with kirtan crooner Jai Uttal playing dotar, Nepalese bansuri flute player Manose, pianist Kit Walker, sitarist Peter Van Gelder (who played with Grace Slick and the Great Society) and esraj player Benjy Wertheimer. They're among the ensemble providing the patchouli-scented ornamentations that surround Premal's serene voice. With producer Ben Leinbach's detailed arrangements and Premal's overdubbed vocal choirs, Moola Mantra recalls similar Hindu adaptations by Rasa more than any other Premal CD. Like Rasa's Hans Christian, Leinbach is a capable multi-instrumentalist with a gift for trance grooves that don't tire and evocative instrumental touches like the tremolo guitar bleeding into Uttal's dotar solo on "Part II." The music is a languid float down an endless stream, but the repetition of the mantra, even with inventive melodic variation, can get tiresome. The Best Rendition of the Moola Mantra by far
This CDs/MP3 is soothing, encouraging, and empowering. The Moola Mantra connects me with the Divine. I love Deva Premal's voice - not too harsh or forceful. It's perfect! Deva Premal "Moola Mantra"
This CD is a must for anyone interested, or already involved in, the Oneness Blessing movement, or for anyone who loves to create a serene, meditative ambiance in their living space.Being into the Oneness Blessing movement, I really wanted my own copyof this particular CD after a friend brought it over and played it while giving my husband and me a Oneness Blessing.I was very happy to find this very gently used copy on Amazon at a resonable price. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys the calming, even seductive effect, of eastern music.The serenity one achieves will carry them through their day!

Deva Premal Moola Mantra download
This version of the "Moola Mantra" has been very helpful to me. The transition from the invocation to the first chant is rather sudden. The singers voice is very pleasant. Unfortunatley, the digital download does not include liner notes or the words, which would be extrememly helpful. At first, the five chants were played in alphabetical order and it took some doing to get them to play in the proper order.

More Bliss From Dear Friends
Having spent last September with Deva-ji & Miten up in Esalen, singing the Moolah Mantra and many others, I looked forward to hearing this CD. I was not disappointed. That it is one long track, broken up by the improvations of various talented instrumentalists might not appeal to the casual fan of DP&M. But, if you allow the music to permeate your surroundings, you will find yourself in the place I am certain they intended with this recording. For those who prefer the mulitple-song format, the Bonus CD has some nice pieces to offer; including a live version of You Gotta Move.Namasté, Timminananda

Very calming, still listening for 8 years
I was looking buy some diferent music,and I saw Deva Premal. I didn't knew which cd to buy. So I got "a deeper light" first and I couldn't stop listening day or evening. So decided add more to my collection. And moola mantra is perfect,so soft, relaxing ( not sleepy). I don't know what to write, if you like Deva Premal you will like all her songs. I got some cd her singing with Miten, love all of them.
