Keep the focus on Selina
The current volume of Catwoman loosely ties in to the Death of the Family storyline running through the Bat-titles, and Catwoman's role in Batman's life is interesting. She provides a rather unique contrast to Joker, refusing to bow to his pressure but in a different way than the Bat-heroes would do.However, Selina Kyle (Catwoman) is a more interesting character when the story explores the moral issues of a thief (sometimes for-hire) who also has a strong desire to help others, particularly children and women. One storyline shows what happens when an ordinary cat-burglar tries to steal a supernatural item, and the item is activated. The #0 issue gives the reader a glimpse into Selina's backstory, showing who she was before she became Catwoman. Its a good read. The latter part of this volume deals with some of the ramifications of information revealed in that semi-origin issue. The mystery surrounding Selina Kyle only gets amped up as Ann Nocenti takes her story into unexpected territory.I enjoyed this book more than I expected and look forward to seeing how the story unravels further down the line. Catwoman/Selina Kyle is showing a lot of potential to be a very intriguing book.I received a preview copy of this book from DC Comics in exchange for an honest review.

"So little time, so many to torture."
Catwoman faces one of Gotham's most notorious criminals; the Joker! After her encounter, she pulls heists for a second fence and gets involved with artifacts straight from Hell itself! Also, the origin of Selena's life of crime is covered as well as her first encounters with the Batman!Covering issues 13-18 and issue 0, Ann Nocenti's Catwoman run here is a fun ride at times. It's all put together in TPB form like the other books in the series and features a healthy gallery of sketches and the one variant cover. The Death of the Family tie-in issues mesh much better than the random Court of Owls tie-in from the last book. The Joker encounter is referenced through almost the entire book so it gives a good feeling of continuity. However, I wasn't all too partial to the art at times. Rafa Sandoval does most of the art in the book but something feels off about the proportions and perspectives at times that make you have to re-look and assess what you're looking at. Also, Selena's wardrobe changes a bit too much through just a few issues. Emanuela Lupacchino does the art at the end of one of the issues and you can see a vast difference between hers and Sandoval's. It's much more crisp and clean. Even Sandoval's Joker didn't seem as creepy and disgusting as he should have been. Adriana Melo does the art for the zero issue and does a good job with the action sequences.Onto the subject of story, the heists go from enjoyable to downright ridiculous as Catwoman is opening portals to Hell and fighting demons alongside disembodied talking arms. As goofy as that sounds, it's all the storyline of one of the issues. My other problem is the zero issue matches up way too well with the origin story found in the awful Halle Berry Catwoman movie. I really disliked that rewrite of Catwoman's story and continue to hate it here. Otherwise, most the issues here are good and the tie-ins are at least worth the read.

Favorite story
I have a love for the Death of the Family arc, so I had to go and get as many parts to it as I could find.

Not great.
Some SpoilersI was really hoping Vol 3 would be as good as 1 and 2 but it this was just meh. The Death of the Family arc may as well have been non existent. There's this huge lead up to Selina confronting Joker and then she just says, "leave me alone" and that's the end of it.The rest isn't much better. The 1st two volumes had Selina in her element, the streets of Gotham, walking that tight line between hero and antihero. Here we have her in DC all of a sudden fighting a bunch of ancient artifacts in a secret vault. The dialogue is bad, and the story is incoherent and incomplete. After reading the disjointed mess, the mystic diamond is handed off to the buyer who goes supersaiyan in the last panel and then we never see him again. The only saving grace was the very end when Catwoman and Batman have a heart to heart. I like reading about their relationship and both characters seemed well represented. That and Selina's checking up on Milo.Overall still disappointed with the turn the story took.
