The raised edges help keep errant spins from flying off the surface and can help a bad spin become a decent one. The glass is clear and clean. The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is there are visible chips and nicks on the extreme edges of the glass. This doesn't affect the spin but for those who are bothered by imperfections, they are noticeable.
