MPI WOOD Large Crate

I am pleasantly surprised by this wooden crate and am pleased to provide a positive first review. Admittedly, I had very low expectations and debated heavily about buying it in the first place. Many wood crates being sold now are complete junk. I'm so glad I took a chance on this. MPI Wood does a great job finishing the crate where it counts while still maintaining a rustic vibe. The handles were the first standout detail. They are not rough at all and actually contoured to fit your hand for more comfortable carrying. You can actually carry things in this crate without the fear of getting splinters! I have three other crates that I've had for years that are exactly the same in dimensions. They're very sturdy, but not as nicely finished. I expect to get a lot of use out of this crate. I still love my old crates but I like this one so much I'm planning to order at least two more and retire my old crates to garage duty. If anything comes up during practical use contrary to this review, I'll post an update.***Update*** I ordered three more of these crates and overall they were of similar quality to the original. They all are all strong, one was a little more rough than the others. One of the new three, unfortunately, had a broken piece on the bottom. Amazon was great about handling the problem with the defective crate. I removed one star since there is some variation in quality control across these pieces. Still very satisfied overall.

This is really a very nice crate that seems well made! Handles are sanded and smooth for easy carrying but the rest seems to be unsanded. We are using this as a way to lift up one of my dogs’ food and water bowls so she’s not bending down far to reach her bowls on the floor. The size is perfect for this use, as you can see in the picture. I think this would also be cute to hold toys, etc. It did take about 2 full weeks to be delivered after I ordered it, even with it being “in stock” when I ordered. Other than the delivery time, this is a great wood crate, especially for the price.

I loved them! It took a little longer than two days being a prime item but shipping was great! No defects or shipping accidents! I use them as shelves and have gotten so many compliments on the idea. I will be ordering more in the future. HD had something similar but these are way sturdier and cooler!

I got a taller bed and needed a temporary solution to make my nightstands taller. This worked perfectly for me! I used cheap acrylic paint to make them match. Paint went on smoothly and they hold my nightstands (with full drawers) with no issue. For anyone wondering about painting or putting weight on them- it’s not an issue! Would definitely recommend!

I wasn’t looking for perfection, especially at this price, but I’m still trying to figure out if I can even use these. Large splinters of wood are coming off all over and where the boards are staples, it’s clear that the method used is too much for these since there are cracks at almost all the staple points, with chunks of wood coming off here too. For most storage needs I wouldn’t worry too much about this stuff, but I bought these to paint and use as both storage and end tables and I don’t think any amount of sanding and paint will be enough to make them look decent.

The bottom is not solid. The boards on the bottom are spaced just as they are on the sides of the crate. This crate was perfect as a birthday man crate. I used brown packing paper crumpled up in the bottom and wood excelsior packing in the rest of the crate. It actually held quite a bit of gifts. What's even better is that the crate is part of the gift and can be re-purposed!

This is not a terrible box. It seems fairly strong, although it has slats on the bottom instead of a solid piece of wood. One should be prepared to spend at least an HOUR sanding this box to prevent getting splinters. I used to get much better made boxes from Bed, Bath , and Beyond, but they no longer seem to sell them. They were more expensive, but well worth it: painted, smoothe, etc.
