Samba Meu ao Vivo

After the sheer magic of the Segundo studio album and "ao vivo" DVD, this DVD is a letdown. (How could it not be??)The magic of Maria Rita to this point has grown out of her close relationships with her band, producer, and the songwriters who helped make "Segundo" a true modern classic. On this DVD, half of the band is missing (only S. Mazzucca remains on bass), and the larger band makes for a more varied sound, but a sound that, while staying true to samba roots, draws focus away from MR's vocals and vibe. As a result, Maria works harder on belting 'em out, on dancing, on captivating the room. Which she sure DOES--vavoom, get a load of that dress at the end!!--but at a cost of coming across as Just Another Brazilian Diva...And also -- THE EDITING SUCKS on this DVD!!! It would've been nice to linger on the beauty of Maria, but sorry: the editor must have OCD because no clip lasts longer then 2 seconds; plus, what's with all the cuts to parts of Maria's body? It felt like she was being disembodied, fetishized by the edotir, rather than celebrated as a solid-gold singing star. Ugh....but boy, she looks hot in that dress!!Please Maria, get back with Tiago/Cuca/Sylvinho/Lenine and keep building on the amazing achievement of "Segundo"! Get back to the intimacy and soul that makes you and your magic voice so compelling.

Perhaps I am prejudiced due to my love of the music of Maria Rita, but I find this to be an outstanding concert video with many outstanding music performances slightly hampered by some erratic video. Some sustained shots of the enthusiastic crowd would have been nice, and perhaps of the band members as well. But there is no doubt as to who is the star of this show, and she sounds (and looks) marvelous! While my personal preference in her music runs more to the selections from "Segundo" (with its smaller, more jazz flavored band), some of which are performed here, Ms. Rita does a marvelous job with the samba style as well. I love the supportive audience, and the fact that so many fans seem to be enjoying a modern take on this classic Brazilian music. Overall, five stars for the music and three for the video production, resulting in a four star rating!

One of those best voice since her mother (Elis Regina) passway.Arlindo Cruz great composer and Leandro Sapucay great producer, made Maria Rita's show amazing.

If you love samba, do yourself a favor and get this DVD. Maria Rita performs the material from the Samba Meu CD in a fantastic live performance. The band cooks like crazy and MR is on fire. Audio and video quality are excellent. I would have preferred a less jumpy editing style, but that seems to be the norm these days. Still, a rich and exciting concert.

I have seem many different Brazilian shows. This one is one of the best, the whole gig, the music quality, Maria Rita has the perfect voice for this kind of music (even more than jazz or whatever she wants to sing the most)... I highly recommend it, every single track was really well recorded, awesome musicians!

Really good DVD. Very good. One of the best jazz vocal Brazilian singers at this time. I can marry Maria Rita. I love her.

本場ブラジルのリズミックで艶のある歌声。バンドの音も最高。中でもドラムとパーカッションのコンビネーションが絶妙です。難を言うと、映像のカット割が機械的で目まぐるしく、少々目が疲れます。でも音は楽しいので、必見なライブだと思います。

のびのびと歌うマリアヒタのライブが楽しめると思います。演奏者の方々も楽しそうなのが伝わってきますし。あと、メイキングではコパカバーナのビーチやリオの町並みが映し出され、普段の彼女も垣間見れて、気に入りました。
