Useless for an actual blind person
I was under the impression that this book was written in Braille. I bought it for a completely blind client and was going to give it to him for his birthday next week. He has autism but he loves to read.Useless to me but fun for a educational kids book. They really need to update the about section and put in a disclaimer somewhere

DISAPPOINTED
Extremely upset with the fact that THIS BOOK DOES NOT ACTUALLY HAVE BRAILLE TRANSLATION INSIDE! why would they translate the book cover but not the actual story? I would call this customer manipulation. Especially that we’re buying it online and can’t physically flip through the pages. Amazon should have left a disclaimer that this book is not actually made for the blind. This was a gift for the only blind kid at the school I work for, imagine having to explain to him that he can’t read the book I ordered about Louis Braille for him?

Wonderful book!
Used this in Sunday School to give the kids a better understanding of what it would be like to be blind before going into the lesson on Jesus healing the blind man. It is a wonderful accounting of how a child --like our kids--became blind, but through much patience and perseverance discovered how all blind people could learn to read and write. I also used "The Black Book of Colors" so that the kids could actually "feel" the dots and imagine the increased sensitivity in their fingers needed to distinguish one letter from another.

Great book!!
Very interesting story!! We enjoyed reading it! Helped us to better understand what a family member that recently became blind was going through. Highly recommend.

Not what we hoped for
We were so keen to add this book to the library we keep for our grandchildren. I must say though, it was somewhat disappointing. The story could have been written in a manner that would draw children in, help them come to a better understanding of the world of blindness, and physical challenges in general. Instead, we found it to be dry and factual, rather than interesting and imaginative.

6 Dots is very good book
As a long-time teacher of the visually impaired, I found the history of Louis Braille and the creation of Braille to be very easily accessible. My 10 year old granddaughter had no problem reading the book. I liked how the French words had English translations so it was easy to read. The only part at which I winced was the description of Louis losing his vision with a leather carving tool. That bothered our 5 year old granddaughter. Other than that I really liked the book.

Wonderful tool
I have a child in Sunday School that found the whole idea of reading with his fingertips to be captivating. This book was the perfect introduction. Wonderfully illustrated, sturdy and interesting.

An amazing story.
I bought this as a baby gift - the start of a library for him. I bought it to go along with the book "Hailstones and Halibut Bones" which is in Braille. An amazing story.

A real lesson.
Purchased as a gift for my 9yr-old granddaughter, have yet to present it, but I read it & liked it. Story well told & illustrated. Does not talk down to young readers. Tells a true and inspiring story of the struggle to develop a reading language for the blind. Shows spirit & optimism in the face of tough obstacles. His determinism made him successful ... but not on the first try. A lesson for old and young alike, for everyone.

Great Book
I ordered this book for the second time. First time it was sent back without delivery!? Delivery was fast this time. An amazing story of a courageous young boy. My 5 year old son and I enjoyed reading it together. Very encouraging! It would have been nice to include the raised dots to feel, in the book. In any case, I highly recommend this book.

Love it!
I love this book! It is well written and beautifully illustrated. Our class does a biography study of Helen Keller and this ties in wonderfully. Dot Day is another great connection when using this book.
