A Handy Little Tool, but Not Quite The Lifesaver I Thouught
Prior to purchasing this tool, I used a utility knife blade, just like you use in a sheetrock knife and it worked well. Some use a razor blade, which is thinner, but also more sharp. The utility knife blade worked well, and to this point I haven’t drawn blood. Certainly the risk is there – so for that reason and also the hope that it would ELIMINATE the risk of a flying detent and spring, I sprung for the tool (pun intended.) The very first time I used it, I shot my detent and spring all the way across my workbench and required some time on my hand and worn out old Army knees looking for the spring and detent. Thankfully I found them. Tried it again, shot it out again, this time into my hand. Tried it a third time, and I was sure I had it, but wasn’t 100% so I did a reset. Fourth time was the charm!! So for the 4th time, it did work pretty well. I've used it few more times on friend’s builds and it works pretty well. Is it hands down better than the old "Shawshank Utility Blade of Doom Methodology"? No, I wouldn't say that, however I would say with more practice, it could be. For sure, it completely eliminated the risk of slicing some flesh open and for that reason perhaps it is enough. Funny thing, I went to my step-dad’s house to help build one, and forgot this tool on my workbench and ended up using a razor blade anyway. Ha!! As an aside – I’ve read some reviews on here indicating the pivot pin was a two-man operation or required a vise. Well, I do use a vise block to secure the lower, but I have never needed a buddy or 3rd or 4th hand. Still all things considered, it is a much safer alternative than using a sharp razor blade or utility knife blade, so on that note, I would recommend purchasing this tool. I haven’t assembled a lot of firearms like a gunsmith, but I have assembled 7 at this point, and I have a good feel for what works and what doesn’t. (Just so you know it’s not a complete NUG’s opinion. (New Ugly Guy/Rookie)I knocked off one star because it does not completely eliminate the risk of losing the detent and spring. If you use it properly, chances are you will be good to go, but there is a risk for still losing the nefarious spring and detent so I knocked off a star. As I said, I would still recommend this tool find a home in your build toolbox.Have fun and Stay Safe!

Great tool if you work on lowers with any regularity
If you assemble AR-15 lowers with any regularity, the amount of frustration this tool will save you is well worth its price. If you've ever tried to install the pivot pin, you know it often ends with the spring and detent flying half way across the room, never to be found again. Methods using razors or magnets usually require a vise and at times a second pair of hands, and the danger of flying springs is still very high. With this tool, the pivot pin installation takes five seconds with no other tools required. Best of all, the detent and spring will stay exactly where they should be. No more lost parts.

This inexpensive tool makes it possible to install the takedown ...
This inexpensive tool makes it possible to install the takedown and pivot pins in AR15 type rifles and pistols. Without it, there is a real possibility that a person could lose tiny, but necessary pieces of their rifle or pistol when the spring launches it across the room. It practically eliminates that possibility.

This tool worked great. The pin portion can be inserted fully
This tool worked great. The pin portion can be inserted fully, depress the detention / spring and still rotated. Made what everyone claims as a PITA job super easy.

Nice to have
Worked perfectly. Prevented the typical chase of the takedown detent that I've seen happen in the shop dozens of times.I must have been lucky. Mine required zero mods to work on the first try.

Nicely built, fits AR15 but be aware that it will not work for the Aero Precision M5 308 Receiver. The knurled shoulder on the pin does not let the tool insert to the correct position. It is a few millimeters too short.
