Light Sleeper [Blu-ray]

This was a great movie, I've always liked William Dafoe and Susan Sarandon. interesting that they allowed this movie to be produced during the infamous sanitation strikes in NYC. I missed the reasons that brought on the staged suicide jump but in the crazy world of drug use and dealingjust paranoia is to blame...

If you are a Willem Dafoe fan, you'll like this movie. Not too many actors could play it the way Dafoe does: Warm and quiet as a recovering drug addict that stays true to his goals.

Anyone who does not fully appreciate this film deserves to go blind.

Good movie with enough depth and character development to keep viewers interest.

Waste of time and money!! I know it's free on Prime®, but after 1/2 hour of watching this, THEY owe ME.

I just don't understand why it is rated 4 stars. As a drama it didn't put me on the edge of my seat. It was too slow and I expected more from a drug pusher type of movie.

That is strange: a dealer with no weapon. Nice guy. He doesn't use. He cares about those he sells to. I like the shooting: not much but very relevant. 16:9/monaural

Though I would've preferred a 1.85:1 original aspect ratio, this full-frame will do just fine for now. An ethereally beautiful motion picture with a career-best performance by Willem Dafoe.

Great movie! Blu-ray has very good picture and sound.

It sums up all the topics of Schraeder's movies, with a great cast, a dark and sad atmosphere. That said, it's not such an unforgettable movie. It conveys a sense of disperation, but it's not at Schraeder's best (not like Affliction, Taxi Driver, Harcore)

So gut der Film -zumindest für meinen Gusto- ist, kann die Bildqualität nicht mithalten. MPEG-Artefakte, vom Analogband ausgehendeDropouts, die leider nicht digital überarbeitet wurden. Dazu ein unscharfes Bild mit matten, verschwommenen Farben.Ton= Dolby Digital Mono.(!) Für einen Film der sechziger Jahre noch vertretbar, aber ein A-Movie der 90er sollte besser bestückt sein.So wundert es kaum, das eine Blu Ray auf sich warten lässt.

Dieser Thriller mit Willem Dafoe und Susan sarandon kam leider nie über den Geheimtip hinaus. Und das ist eigentlich unverständlich, da Paul Schrader hier einen soliden Film inzeniert hat, der auch stellenweise hohe Ansprüche erfüllt.Inhalt:Die schwere Limousine samt Chauffeur und das viele Geld, das bei seinen nächtlichen Manhattan-"Touren" den Besitzer wechselt, täuschen: John LeTour hat es nur zum Angestellten eines kleinen, freilich umsatzstarken Unternehmens gebracht. Es beliefert die Schönen und Reichen - bevorzugt mit Kokain. Als "Ambulanz" der besonderen Art ist John jederzeit über einen Piepser für aktuell Bedürftige erreichbar.Doch John lebt in permanentem Misstrauen. Aber nicht nur das raubt ihm den Schlaf: mit vierzig ist er eigentlich schon zu alt für seinen Job. Als auch noch seine Arbeitgeberin Ann plant, den Drogenservice einzustellen, gerät LeTour in seine eigene Hölle. Aus Angst vor einer Zukunft ohne Perspektive, sucht er bei der attraktiven Marianne Halt. Doch seine Hoffnung auf ein neues Leben mit ihr wird zerstört - Marianne wird Opfer eines mysteriösen Unfalls. LeTour hat eine neue Aufgabe: Rache!Die Story bietet zwar keine Innovationen, allerdings weiss sie durchaus zu überraschen.Inhaltlich guter Durchschnitt, hat sich Arthaus/Kinowelt mit der DVD wirklich Mühe gegeben.Das Bild (1,85:1) ist völlig in Ordnung und hat kaum Verunreinigungen. Beide Tonspuren überzeugen mit gutem, wenn auch nicht überragendem, Sound und auch die Extras sind in Ordnung. Hier ist neben dem Kommentar von Paul Schrader vorallem der szenenspezifische Kommentar der Schauspieler zu empfehlen.Wer Dafoe und Thriller mag, kann ohne Zweifel zuschlagen.
