Once I saw a Mexican Man walking along the highway on the way back from Wake County Courthouse In 2006– in what used to be Dix Hill Mental Hospital 🏥 and Prison in Raleigh NC-now refurbished as a beautiful park with lots of fun things for children of all ages-and hopefully a new MentalHealth Facility/Prison in DurhamCounty near Butner-will have toCheck. I pulled over , I had a teenage or just over teenage mother with me; The walking man was carrying a baby 🍼 deer in his arms. I asked himWhat he was going to do with the baby and he motioned “eat it” spooning his hand to his mouth. I asked him if I couldHave the Baby Deer for$50.00-I happened to have some cash and showed him the amount. He said Yes!!! So we put the frightened baby about the size of a medium 🐕 or German Shepard size maybe— that large but I don’t think so- O am remembering that baby deer was brand new. It was mostly legs , this man found it in the City-driven out and distracted or it’s mother killed by construction most likely. We heldThe terrified baby deer in our arms , taking turns and called Wake County NC Animal Control. The responding officer was amazing -😇 he promised he wouldGet helpFor that baby 🍼 and release it back into the wild if and when appropriate (In other words not murder it, take care of it, feed and release with another Deer Family orGive it to someone who had a large backyard and likes wildlife like deer. I don’t know how I got onto this story tonight except possibly to talk about some of the possibilities Gun Violence exists. The man was hungry, he had no transportation, was on foot and had somehow caught his dinner, in a bustling city 🍽 for that day. He probably had had nothing to eat all day. Hopefully #DorotheaDix Park Is a respite for deer and other wildlife. So this black ribbon is also for baby animals and other animals that are victims of gun violence too; as wellAs forThe Human Victims I spoke of first.
