Good external enclosure for IDE interface CD-ROM
This enclosure was purchased to house a Plextor PX-230 IDE CD-ROM salvaged from an old desktop computer. I concur with opinions that fault the power cord connection to the case; it is flimsy. The case fan is also quite loud. Although the fan might be necessary when the enclosure is used for a hard drive, there is little need for it when the enclosure is used for a CD-ROM so I just disconnected it. The main body of the case is pretty sturdy aluminum but the fitment to the plastic endpieces is poor and uneven. In spite of these criticisms, the enclosure seems to do its main functional job well and I can immediately see this CD-ROM drive and its contents under Windows 10. This was the only such external USB case I could find for an IDE interface drive so I am happy to have it.

Worked as expected for application I wanted.
I purchased the portable enclosure to mount a 160 GB HDD that I had obtained in a non-functioning computer from a close friend. My objective was to transfer pictures/files onto this drive for back-up and I was completely satisfied with the outcome. Enclosure accepted the old WD IDE drive and booted up/was recognized immediately. After re-formatting the 160 GB drive I transferred for back-up approximately 35,000 .JPG images and miscellaneous files. Worked as expected with no problems. Enclosure arrived much earlier than expected based on e-mail status I received from Amazon.

Good concept, poorly executed
the metal part is great, but the front and back panel are cheaply made plastic with easily-broken tabs, after just one time of trying to put an internal DVD burner in the enclosure, one of the tabs broke and now the fan makes a rattling noise.

Simple, Affordable, Effective... but Poorly Constructed.
This piece, while exactly what I needed (and something rapidly becoming much harder to find), is weakly constructed and flimsily put together, with parts NEARLY fitting together as they need to to effectively keep dust and grit out of the fine circuitry and electronics of the contained DVD drive.

Died after 1 yr of use
I bought this about 2.5 years ago to house an extra DVD drive for use with my set-top box. The fan only worked for a month, but as the DVD drive didn't get very hot I didn't think it was a problem. It lasted a little less than a year before it would no longer turn on. The face plate never really like to stay in place, and was quite a hassle. Since then I've been using an SATA drive with no external housing for my set top box, and it's far more convenient. For connecting up an occasional IDE hard drive I use one one of those cheap $10 3 in one external adapters and am fairly happy with them.

Got my drive back!
Plugged it in and my drive came up like a champ.I'd been using another external IDE enclosure for years, but it finally conked out on me. I didn't know *for sure* that the drive still worked, but I suspected it did. The old enclosure's fans stopped working, and the drive got very hot. Took a chance on buying this enclosure, and I was happy that my drive did still work and that the new enclosure worked well too.The only negative, which resulted in a lost star, was that my 5.25" IDE hard drive was too small! The enclosure came with 4 small silver screws to hold the drive to the sides, but I had a good inch on each side and no "expander" rails to keep the drive centered. I ended up having to screw the drive on one side, which resulted in the other side of the drive "hovering" about a half-inch off the bottom of the enclosure. Not happy with that, I grabbed one of those flat, silver slot covers from the back of an old computer (the kind with the little lip on it that you screw into place to cover slots in the back for which you don't have a video/audio/whatever card to insert into the motherboard) and used it to provide support on the "hovering" side of the drive. The fan is on the loud side, but I guess I'll know when it quits working!

Great HD Case
This is a great HD case to install external HD or DVD drives. I ordered this case to install a Light Scribe DVD burner. The unit is well made and was easy to open to install the DVD burner. It stacked two other HD in external cases on top of it and it remained cool because of the built in cooling fan, which was what decided my choice after looking at other cases for more money with out fans. The fan is whisper quiet in either the vertical or horizontal position. If I was still using IDE external drives I would buy a couple of more for back up drives.Wookieman.

Good Enclosure but LOUD.
This is really nice External enclosure for my LightScribe internal 3.5" Optical Drive which I pulled out of My old Mac.Only one Issue: The Fan of this Case is way Loud.Wish manufacture can slow the speed of the Fan of the Enclosure.
