I bought this at Harbor Freight, and it's currently my only smoothing plane. As a learning experience, it's been an excellent teacher, for all the wrong reasons.I don't have a belt grinder, so after 12 hours of work, the sole is still not flat, but finally servicable. The handle doesn't seat properly, so there's an odd wobble after tightening. The chip breaker doesn't seat well, and tends to pop off after only a few minutes of use. Sharpening blades is something I'm good at, but it still took 20 minutes to get an... okay edge. Not stellar, but polished, profiled, and sharp enough to skive leather.After all of that tuning... The blade chipped on douglas fir in the first hour. No nails, glue, knots, crossgrain or endgrain to deal with; just wood.When other reviewers say this thing is junk, I believe this is what they mean. New woodworkers beware.

Nice plane as long as you realize that it needs to be sharpened right out of the box. Well worth it for the money as long as you know how to sharpen it and really in my opinion anyone using this type of tool needs to learn how to sharpen their tools. Much better price available at Harbor Freight where I bought mine.
