They fit very snugly in the hex for the drain and fill plugs. A long 1/2 ratchet or breaker bar is very helpful and makes the job easier. Definitely recommend them for your DIYer, the best alternative to buying snap on or those weak hex sockets sold in auto parts stores. Mind you, I did not try them with an impact as I did not need it but they feel sturdy and have some heft to them.
