First of all, you get to have fun assembling it as if it were a real skateboard, complete with a mini skate tool that they provide. Second, the grip tape is actually some foam padding which actually provides quite a lot of grip and makes it easier on the fingers (they even provide a spare piece). Third, it just looks more like a miniature model of a skateboard with real metal trucks that turn. And fourth, it appears to hold up really well to the abuse my 10 month old daughter puts it through (trying to use it as some sort of hammer against the ground, or put it in her mouth.) Review: Best bang for your buck! - It is amazing!
