Review "A Parent's Guide to Gifted Children is an essential resource for all families of gifted children." - Review by the Davidson Institute for Talent Development "This helpful guide concisely explains the complexities of gifted children, addresses the challenges they face, and details practical strategies for parents to support their gifted children in all aspects of their lives." - Duke University Talent Identification Program (Duke TIP) reviewer Bobbie Collins-Perry "One of the very best [books on parenting gifted children]... The tone and language the authors use is both comforting and reassuring. Although the authors often refer to research, their discussions are clear and don't require any previous knowledge of giftedness." - Carol Bainbridge of Parenting Gifted children on About.com "The best starting point for new and experienced parents." - Carolyn K., founder and director of Hoagies' Gifted Education Page, for SENG's blog. "[T]his book offers a straightforward "owner's manual" that will guide you through the challenges you and your child will face." - Suki Wessling of Examiner.com "[I] wish [I] had read a long time ago... a must-read for everyone interested in helping all gifted children soar to their true potential." - Educational consultant, Cathy Risberg, M.A., for Unexpected Gifts "If you are going to just get one book, get this one! Great overview of parenting gifted children." - Higley Supporters of The Gifted From the Inside Flap "Heretofore, there has not been such a wonderfully insightful, fascinating, and comprehensive guidebook as this one. A Parent's Guide to Gifted Children will undoubtedly become a 'must read' for all adults who are confronted with the day-to-day challenges inherent in bringing up a gifted child." -F. Richard Olenchak, Ph.D., P.C., Director and Psychologist, Urban Talent Research Institute, University of Houston and Past President, National Association for Gifted Children ; "...an invaluable guide for parents, grandparents, and others who love a gifted child. At 400 pages, it is not as long as the manual for a home computer, but much more important and far more interesting." -Raymond D. Fowler, Ph.D., Former President and Chief Executive Officer, American Psychological Association ; "This book is destined to become the classic guide for parents of gifted children. The key topics covered are essential ones, and this book provides much wisdom and new information." -Jan Davidson, Ph.D., Co-founder, Davidson Institute for Talent Development and co-author of Genius Denied: How to Stop Wasting Our Brightest Minds See all Product description

Great guide as a parenting resource
Great guide as a parenting resource, but overthinks quite a few points which in my opinion need not be glossed over much.

Mind blown
You know the emoji with the mouth agape and the exploding head? That’s me reading this book. And I’m only on page 22! It already has explained so much about the way my eight-year-old son, an aspiring engineer, thinks and processes the world around him -- and why he has trouble forming close friendships even though he wants desperately to be liked by everyone. I also find myself laughing as I see aspects of my six-year-old in this book. “The simple act of passing the salt becomes a three-act play.” Yep, that is *so* my daughter, but with her, it's spontaneous, original songs; often with hilarious lyrics. I can only imagine how many more insights the next 300 pages of this book will bring.

Exceptional information
I bought this book for both my daughter and myself because her 6 year old son has been labeled as gifted. This book is FANTASTIC. My daughter says it is like she is reading specifically about her son. It is well written, easy to read and loaded with information. I am sure both of us will be referencing it for years to come. The authors REALLY know what they are talking about. I highly recommend it to anyone who has a gifted child.

My first choice
I ordered four books on Gifted Children this one, Living with Intensity, Raising a Gifted Child and Emotional Intensity in Gifted Students. The last one I have not read . This book describes the child's behavior and also gives stratiegies to deal with them. I also loved the comment that often times "the parent needs their parent to help understand." Having a gifted child is not easy and parents need support as well. I think it is most important to be well informed. In each of the books I read I got another idea, another suggestion, or an e-mail site. I have not read Emotional Intensity with Gifted Students yet. I lent it to a friend.

Outstanding Book for Panicking Parents of the Gifted
Because my PhD is in Gifted Education, I have read dozens of books and hundreds of articles, literally thousands of pages on the topic of gifted kids. I have also taught gifted children for 15 years and have spoken at national conferences. Webb's book is outstanding and thorough. It guides parents through understanding giftedness, including IQ, Dabrowski's overexciteabilities (which is very eye-opening), gifted kids with disabilities, testing, school servicing of the gifted, discipline and home life, and other important topics. For the parent who knows nothing about giftedness and is terrifed, to the parent who is an advocate with their local school district and thinks they know everything about giftedness, this book will open your eyes to new knowledge about your child. This book is also very appropriate for teachers of the gifted and those doing research in gifted education.
