I've had a few collapsible strainers in the past, and I guess the best word to describe them is "flimsy?"I bought this on a whim and I was really shocked with just how impressed I was with it. The cool thing about this strainer is that what controls it's movement is a series of rubber grooves, so you can control how much it opens (whether it's shallow or deep) and the intensity of popping it back into place. Once it's closed, it's not going to fall apart or open unexpectedly while it's in the mix with all of your pans either.Another thing I loved about this is that rubber exterior gives it a nice, comfortable grip. It's a really neat, innovative little strainer. One thing I will say is it's not GIGANTIC; it's about averaged sized for a strainer, so keep that in mind.Pictured is an idea of how the rubber works to control the strainer. As the name states, this strainer is collapsible making it easy to store in the kitchen. Being someone who loves to cook, I have a kitchen full of kitchen tools, but not enough room to store it all. The strainer however, allows easy storing which makes my life easier.This strainer can fit in cabinets, drawers and even in tight spaces, which is far better than the bulky plastic strainer I have.Not only do I love the strainer for its collapsing ability, but I also like that the base is made out of stainless steel and the rest is silicone. This makes the strainer a firm support for the food being strained, but easy to collapse without having to wrestle with it.I have already tried the strainer and I am impressed how the pasta all made it into the strainer - great size for big pots.The strainer was delivered within a week of purchase and was very well packaged. I bought it for my camping equipment because of how little space it takes up when it is fully collapsed and I was willing to sacrifice form & function for size. To my surprise it works just as well as a traditional hard strainer. I was worried that it would not hold its shape when fully stretched out once the hot water from draining pasta was poured over it but it held up perfectly. Cleaning was a breeze and it pops back together in no time. I would recommend leaving it fully opened until it is completely dry and the holes in handle make it easy to hang on a hook to give it time to air out. I highly recommend this product for anyone who has limited kitchen space but still wants a fully functioning kitchen tool.
