Solo Banjo Works Paperback – May 1, 2006

This is one of the most interesting tab books i have ever bought out of many music books of all types since the 80's.....it's wonderful, brilliant, bizarre at times....and PURE FUN. Simply put, it is very accurate to the album. Basically half of the book is Trischka material, and the latter half is Fleck material. If you like this amazing album, this is pure finger candy. a wonderful value. In one book, you have a wonderful compilation of music from two of the best musicians in the world, back to back. interestingly, its almost difficult to know who is playing what song if you were to play this on shuffle. this makes this music particularly interesting if you are interested in the Trischka/Fleck timeline. I would recommend this book to any banjo player, as this is the tab to one of the best (and overlooked) banjo albums ever made, period. I don't want to dissuade anyone at all from buying this, as i think any banjo player will benefit despite your skill level. i will say that it is very clear and well laid out, and your fingers will be in for some exercise. The songs "Liberec" and "Assunta" are just two gems that will pay for themselves. There are many others, and each are different and wonderful.

I'm a pretty good clawhammer banjo player, but idolize Fleck and Trischka's virtuosic talent. I'm excited to have this book as a goal, but in no way is it even remotely possible for me to fingerpick through these tabs even with great effort exerted. Of course I should have purchased a beginner three-finger style book and started at the beginning, right? This book makes me feel like a fool on the banjo, and that's okay. Accurate tabs to beautiful pieces. This book is A-Ok.

I love listening to the CD that this tablature book details. I bought this book to help me figure out the intricate work these two fellows pour into their music. There is something thrilling about being able to imitate the greats, adn this book allows you to do just that!

Zuerst: Auch wenn das Buch nur eine einfache Spiralbindung aufweist und etwas lieblos gestaltet ist, erfüllen die Tabs (ohne Noten und zusätzliche Spielhinweise) ihren Zweck vollkommen. Der geübte Banjospieler kann sich dann also getrost an das Werk von Trischka und Fleck machen, dessen Schwierigkeitsgrad von mittel bis sehr hoch wandelt. Banjo-Beginner sollten sich dieses Werk noch aufsparen.Dennoch eine Anmerkung, für diejenigen, die sich die entsprechenden Musiktitel dann herunterladen wollen. Zumindest bei iTunes sind die Titel zum Teil verwechselt, so dass der vorhergesehe Tab nicht zum gleichnamigen Lied passt. Wer sich also nur einzelne Titel runterladen möchte, muss hier aufpassen. Zudem befinden sich 1-2 Tabs im Buch, die ich nicht auf dem Album ausmachen konnte und umgekehrt beinhaltet das Album Lieder, die nicht in diesem Songbook vorkommen (z.B. das Beatles-Medley).Für diese Verwechslungsgefahr kann jedoch das Songbook nichts, so dass die Tabs ihren Zweck erfüllen.

Die praktischen Beispiele von Modulationen für das Banjo, ermöglichen dem Spieler die Vielfältigkeit des Instrumentes, sowie freies Improvisationsvermögen, elementar, ohne grosse Mühe für lebendiges Spielen wesentlich klangräumlich auszuschöpfen und zu verbessern.
