## Description

Colonel James Raytak is about to die. The 93-year-old combat veteran is living his last days in a nursing home and his only hope for survival is an experimental medpod controlled by an artificial intelligence. The artificial intelligence will also control the soon to be released game Limitless Lands. Without its creator’s knowledge, the artificial intelligence decides that the best course of treatment is to import Colonel Raytak’s consciousness directly into the game. Colonel Raytak must dust off his military training and lead his virtual troops in a fight to repair his broken body and mind while exploring the Limitless Lands. Revised with new cover art in March 2020.

Review: Best book I have read in the litrpg genre. - The litrpg genre, while dear to my heart is unfortunately riddled with badly witten low quality power fantasies. Most of them feel as if they are written reflecting the desires of the writer more than any audiance. Many also delve into awkward sexual fantasies of the writer that could not possibly exist in the real world. Every book written in the litrpg sub genre in some way empower their protaganist in such a way that they become impossible to be relatable. This book only broaches one of these trends. It uses the empowered protagonist trope in such a way as to make the character more enjoyable (you'll like him). It is the best of the litrpg genre creating amazing unique story, that in the future will define the baseline for it's subgenre. It is as a whole different level from it's competitors in the genre and I cannot encourage it enough. It is a dam good book and not only the best of it's genre but among my favorite new books of the last 3 years. I hope some day the author reads this just so he can fathom the amount of compliments I want to give this book. But If I must pick something to criticize it will be the world building, there is so much more he can do with the world building, expanding upon the ancient Roman empire. The period is rife with more than the unfortunately few cultures mirrored in the book. The book could also use more supporting characters and gate travel options. If you have read this far into the review understand these complaints are minor and do not take away from the book. I make them only so that the writer can turn these works into masterpieces that eventually become more than novels.
Review: Nice Origin/Series Starter tale - I tend to have a very negative reaction to the VRMMO LitRPG tales. I have a hard time picturing why anyone would want to spend their entire lives in VR, and the worlds tend to end up rather uneven quickly. The fact that there are a number of "adjustments" that have to be made to time passing and such to make the story timelines work always lends itself to tying the plot into knots i can't agree with. This story at least started with a believable reason for the main character to be in VR, with Colonel Raytak (retired) being near death due to old age and some completely impossible nanotech is being used to try to rebuild his time worn body. To protect his mind he is put into the VR game. At least this solves the "why is he always in VR" problem for me. And Colonel Raytak isn't a bad character. he has a purpose. he is rather intelligent. And despite his lack of history due to a memory block, he's relatable in a way. It makes for a character you want to support and root for. The rest of the story manages to come together thanks to the solid foundation and good character. Its not much more than an origin story as the depths of the world and the characters are avoided. But its not a bad tale. I was looking forward to book 2 before I even finished this book. I give it a solid 4 stars.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great LitRPG, Military fantasy book
*by B***S on November 24, 2018*

While the story is simple it picks you up and takes you on a very cool journey. I liked that the main character wasn't super dark and haunted by his past deeds. This may be because of his condition that you find him in when the story starts, but I hope the author doesn't change his current personality in future books. I liked a lot that while there were mean and selfish people in the story that they didn't dominate it and were just obstacles to be overcome. The RPG aspects of the story were well balanced in my opinion and that the main character doesn't seem to be overpowered. Overall, a great read and I am going to purchase book 2 after writing this review.
