## Description

Sampling Essential MPX8 is an advanced sampler / player with eight backlit velocity- and pressure-sensitive pads. Combining an ultra-portable footprint with convenient USB power, musicians, producers and performers can trigger sound samples stored on standard SD cards using the best pads in the business. Insert the SD card, assign its contents to any of the MPX8’s pads, and you’re ready to perform. For unrestricted production capability MPX8 features MIDI over USB and on-board MIDI inputs and outputs -perfect for controlling DAWs, virtual instruments, drum machines and more. Plus, with on-board processors for tuning and reverb, take command of your samples, add some dynamic flair to your performance and make your samples your own. At home, in the studio, as part of a producer's rig, or on stage as a solution for triggering critical sounds, MPX8 is a compact sampling powerhouse.

Review: Great basic drum sampler for the price - Great basic MIDI controller and sampler for home studio and live applications. I use mine at home for basic beat production/finger drumming, for which it works great. The pad sensitivity is a bit hard to get used to, but nothing ridiculous. The drummer in my band uses it on stage, with a drum pad MIDI controller triggering samples on the Akai. It works great for this as well, and allowed us to add samples and electronic drum sounds to our live set without adding a laptop or more expensive drum module to our live rig. There is quite a bit of negativity surrounding this sampler, but I think it's misplaced. The comparable 8 pad MIDI controller (no on-board samples) from Akai is $60, so the sampler portion that everyone seems to have issues with is really only $40. Yes it's limited to 16-bit mono WAV files, loads large samples slowly, and has a somewhat clunky interface. But if you need more flexibility and better performance, you should be looking at something like an Electribe or MPC. That simply doesn't exist in this price range.
Review: Easy to use, simple to set up. - This is a great, affordable alternative to many different sample pads on the market. The velocity sensors have a great response rate, there aren’t a lot of frills, and it’s pretty simple to set up. It’s a little clunky to edit with the dial, and the software is pretty buggy with being prone to crashing. But you can’t beat the price, and having a sampler that I don’t need any additional equipment (other than a speaker) is more than a fair trade off.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Just to be clear this can actually sample from an external source right? Cause i think the mpx8 you could only load samples. Thanks.**
A: HEY AMAZON, I think this question is attached to the wrong item.

I'm seeing the question on item B00BDFQCXA, which is the Akai MPX8, which does not have the ability to sample sounds directly. (I physically have an MPX8 on the desk in front of me, along with its manual. It does NOT have any "inputs" at all. The only way to use custom samples on the MPX8 is to load them from an SD card.)

The fact that several people have already answered to say that it CAN sample directly, suggests that the question and answers are talking about a different item - and when I click on the question to see all of the answers, it's showing a link to item B00J4JPUFS, which is the Akai MPX16, which is NOT the same item.

I'm not sure how this question got attached to the wrong item, but shoing this question on the MPX8 product page is going to cause confusion, and might cause a customer to buy an MPX8 thinking it can sample, and then return it when they find that it can't.

**Q: can this be triggered using my Simmons SD 9 ?**
A: Probably not, as your only option would be to go via midi. The MPX8 midi implementation is lacking (search for midi running status) and Akai never bothered to fix the firmware. What does that mean for you? That as soon as you start using it, it keeps missing notes: e.g. hit the SD9 3 times and the 3rd won't sound. The only thing MPX8 has going for it: cheap. But then, Akai *is* cheap.

**Q: Will this store sounds and voices that you can play while broadcasting**
A: We use this MPX8 to play voice announcements of our standard 4 messages to operate our Outdoor Shooting Range. It plays back our recorded wav voice files with clarity throughout the our day. We plan to buy another as a backup.

**Q: How big are the pads? Could I activate them with my feet to provide effects for a show?**
A: Each pad square is about 1 1/4" x 1 1/4", so using your feet (especially with shoes) will probably not work without running into the other pads

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great value and performance
*by E***Y on February 16, 2022*

Excellent beginner sample player. There isn't really anything else at this price range that lets you load your own sounds onto a card and output to a speaker or you can use it as a simple midi controller. I saw some complaining reviews about having difficulty loading sounds but everything is laid out in the instructions and it's very easy to do so they just didn't bother following them. If you genuinely can't figure them out that's a you issue because there's nothing really easier out there.
