Great gift idea
After picking this book up at the library for my 7-year-old son I could barely convince him to return it to the library when it was due. After I finally pried it out of his hands I ended up ordering this for him for Christmas. It's been read nearly every single day since then. This is a wonderful story about a small mouse named Hermelin who becomes a detective in the apartment building he lives in. It has a great story line and lots of hidden features in the images that my son excitedly points out every time he sees them. Definitely worth the read and would make a great gift for a child who has intermediate reading skills.

Disappointed!
Love Mini Grey but did not love this book. Too much depended on the illustrations and I wanted it to introduce mysteries to third graders and it did not meet that purpose.

Witty and beautifully illustrated
Hermelin the Detective Mouse is wonderful. The story itself is sweet and enjoyable. But the illustrations are what really make the book a success. The detail is exquisite--down to the discarded candy wrappers, witty box labels, and book covers lying around on each page. This book is suitable for young children but my wife and I also enjoyed it too. We can't wait to see if there are more.

Charming and heart warming
I checked this book out from the library for my 8 year old son before purchasing the book. He has a wonderful time from the first full page spread studying the pictures for clues as to what might happen in the book. As we read the story, my son would go back to previous pages to refer to the pictures to try to piece things together. This book is a charming story of a mouse who tries to solve the mystery of things that have gone missing from people who live in a row of townhouses. While each mystery is solved very quickly, the people want to know who is the mysterious person who has helped everyone out. When they meet Hermelin, the detective mouse, they are scared her and she contemplates running away since she is not wanted in the townhouses anymore. However, a young lady in one of them townhouses decides to team up with her to open their own detective agency. Hermelin no longer feels like a household pest and finally feels like she belongs. The pictures are super charming and the story left both us smiling.
