I've made a few project from this book now, and the graphics and instructions have been clear, easy to understand, and follow along with to wrap up each knitted item. Review: almost everything you need to know about knitting with circular needles - I've learned a great deal about knitting with circular needles from this book. As a result, i knit only with circular needles now and love it. The author gives wonderful tips, is easy to follow, and has excellent photos in her book. She reminds us that in patterned knitting, such as Fair Isle, if the pattern stitches are too tight and draw in the design, start over and simply change to a larger size needle when knitting the patterns. Now, I always begin with and stay with the smaller size when knitting the plain stitches and generally go up one full size for the pattern; that is, if I begin with a size two, which is great for my fine Shetland yarns, I simply change to a size three when knitting the patterns and return to the size two for the plain knit stitches. In other words, the smaller size makes a tighter fabric, and the larger size makes a looser fabric which accommodates the strands across the inside back of the item. I hope I am not confusing anyone who reads this. So far, my favorite pattern in this book is the "reversible seamless scarf," knit on circular needles, with an added fringe at each end to join the tube layers together. By "reversible," the author means that no matter which of the two sides of the "tube" you have facing outward, either side is the right side. The section on binding off is particularly good because it is easy to bind off off to tightly when working in the round and this can ruin your project (or at least make you miserable while you pick out your bind off to redo). I liked the section on how to solve the problem with "jogs", a typical knitting in the round issue when you end one round and begin the next. There are a wide variety of projects including hats and gloves. Also, she covers both bottom up and top down techniques. My only complaint is that the samples used to demonstrate the techniques are very small, doll sized sweaters. I understand that these are designed to be samplers for the techniques but I am very unmotivated in using my expensive, beautiful yarn to create a sampler.
