I have been meaning to learn Italian and I must say, this set of discs really helped me understand the basics of the beautiful language. Thank you!

This is in my view one of the very best starter packages. I sometimes felt that there was a bit too much English explanation.I would recommend it to anybody. Cannot praise it too highly.

I had to get this for my Italian class, and it is really helpful. I am quite ahead of the class because the book makes the language easy to understand.

The "Teach Yourself" method seems to change with languages &/or editions. Many years ago I used their program to teach myself Hindi. It was a great program. I expected Italian to be similar. It is COMPLETELY different method which I find difficult to use. Not much explanation - they call it the "Discovery Method" ie figure it out yourself. Better off using Duolingo and getting a comprehensive grammar guide.

I like the TEACH YOURSELF series and learned Norwegian with it. I wish the publisher had hired some very careful copy editors to fine tune COMPLETE ITALIAN and correct the inconsistencies. The use of accent marks is especially inconsistent in the text. Sometimes I am not sure if a particular spelling inconsistency is grammatical or a typo. But I do feel that I'm learning Italian, and that's a good feeling.

This is a great book for anyone wishing to learn Italian.Very easy to understanding and even better when purchased with the audio cds!Arrivederci

But there are better programs like assimil. Even other books in the teach yourself series do a better job of putting new vocabulary close to where it is introduced which doesn't sound like a big deal but when every paragraph you are flicking backwards and forwards and grabbing an extra dictionary to check words rather than a quick glance at the end for "new vocab" like in the portuguese TY book, it quickly becomes tedious and time wasting.
