I purchased these last month or so, and I'm purchasing another set. They work very well, extremely strong and they do have a protective coating on the outside that assures your firearm won't get scratched.you will be hard pressed to find a stronger magnet in this size, and its quality made.I used one of them stuck onto a metal frame under my wooden desk to hold a full size automatic suspended from the slide with the grip hanging down, very convenient! I'm not sure how much the pistol weighs but it has a 13 round magazine with 45 ACP and although it's a polymer gun it's pretty beefy . in fact I can tell you I also have hung a sig Sauer p220 elite it is entirely stainless steel from the same position and no problems it holds it like a champ. In fact I'm holding up a 44 Magnum desert eagle inside the top of my safe. I didn't even screw in the magnet, it's metal to metal on the safe and then the gun is hanging from that suspended from the slide/receiver with the grip hanging down for easy access.. fully loaded that weapon has got to weigh at least 8 to 10 lb. Also extremely easy to pull the weapon on and off the magnet if you do it with a rocking motion especially helps. All in all you just need a little imagination in how to use these things, and experiment a little bit, if you're using a rifle you might need one of these for the barrel and a little bigger magnet for the receiver, depends if you're holding it upside down or on a panel / on the wall. As I said two or three of my applications, I stick the magnet on a metal safe or frame and then hang the pistol from it.
