The Green Monster...
I call it the green monster (yes i live near Boston ;) and it is a freakin monster. It will literally eat up anything i throw in it...the amount of space is unreal. I hesitated before buying this trying to decide between a Large ALICE pack or a Medium one. I figured id rather have too MUCH space, than not enough. So anyway, i will begin describing the pack itself, and then the frame. The pack has 3 very large outer pockets on the lower portion of the outside. I put my first aid kit and a few other things in one, some fat wood and alcohol gel fuel in another pocket, and i leave the big outside center pocket empty for extra goodies. Just above those large outer pockets are 3 more smaller pockets. These dont seem like much but they are deep and actually hold quite a bit. I put my fire starting kit in one, my compass in another, and again, leave one empty for other stuff. Then there is the large flap that covers the large opening for the main pack. This flap has a rubbery type material coating the underneath portion of it, and also is a pouch in itself. There is plenty of room in the flap pouch to stuff a few hats, gloves, and poncho even. The main compartment of the pack is absolutely enormous...i wasnt sure exactly HOW big it was after reading numerous reviews. Everyone was right, its gigantic. You could EASILY stuff your sleeping bag, clothing, cookware, etc into it. Mine contains a tool kit, all my cookware, a collapsable shovel, journal, clothes, sleeping bag, and its not even half full yet. Seriously. Now there are also "loops" and other similar strappings on the outside that allow you to attach other pouches to the pack itself. I find my Cold Steel Frontier Hawk slides right into the loops perfecly so i even have a place to carry my axe. Now some people argue that the frame is uncomfortable. Ok really...its not. If you're expecting it to feel like a pillow on your back then dont bother. But it distributes the weight perfectly for me anyway and the LC-2 shoulder straps are more then enough padding as well as the LC-2 kidney pad. Now i could be mistaken but i believe these guys are offering USED alice packs, not new. If you want a NEW alice pack you're lookin at spending a bit more for it. And the newer ones arent even genuine alice packs. Not to say they arent as good, but they stopped making these like 2-3 years ago and replaced them with the MOLLE pack and i believe the USMC use whats called an ILBE pack. So yeah, my pack had one tiny hole in the main body of it, which i can easily sew up myself, and a few stains...but i didnt buy it to be pretty. I bought it because its rugged as hell and i intend on beating it up while im out playing "suvivor man" in the woods with my boy. All in all, its a great pack for the money, and i highly recomend one if you're as broke as i am and are just looking for an affordable pack with insane amounts of space. I gave it 4 stars, yeah its used, but dammit im impressed!

Very pleased
Purchased to use as a BOB (bug out bag)Reason for purchase: I live in hurricane alley and wanted a decent capacity BOB that could contain the recommended 3 days of food/water/clothes/some extras, that I could easily and quickly throw in my truck if the need to evacuate arose.Having looked through Cheaper Than Dirt, Walmart and numerous oher local/online retailers (including amazon) I found dozens of bags which could do the job, but all of them required making some compromise in capacity, number of compartments, quality, carry comfort, configuration, ease of access etc.I chose this bag as it offered the most complete solution with the least compromise.Quality of product:-Some dangling threads, but nothing compromising the construction or strength of the bag....(just something you notice when you've been trained by the USMC)Condition of product as received:-New.Shipping:-Fast-Reasonablely pricedPROS:-Capacious...significantly exceeds the volume eeded to carry the recommended 3 day minimum worth of food, water, clothes.-Six external compartments..(1 large, 2 medium and 3 magazine pouches-equivelent to 2 M4 mags per pouch)-Multiple external attach points for extra gear(not MOLLE compatable tho.)-Light weight/high strength aluminum carrying frame - Straps adjustable to suit user.-External frame keeps load off back/allows air gap for ventilation between back and pack.-"Old school" military design...All compartments secured by straps, metal snaps or draw strings...no zippers to break/jam.-"Old school" military design...All grommets/rivets/snaps are metal(no plastic to break)-"Old school" military design...All sewn seams folded or reinforced-Allows simultanious use of MOLLE/web vest (obviously with the proper configuration of the vest to the gills) AND a duty belt.CONS:-Water 'resistant', not water proof. Purchase silicon spray or large poncho.-Not MOLLE compatable, though jury rigging MOLLE gear should be reasonably easy-Only one subdivision for main compartment-Ease of access. Not as easy as many zippered packs, but its a fair trade off for reliabilty of the lower quality/cheap zippered bags.-No chest strap...a PRO in that it makes it easier/faster to take the pack off, but a CON in that it reduces shoulder strap stability (slightly) and allows shoulder straps to shift.-"Old school" military design...made of nylon rather than modern fabrics. That said, it is a heavy grade of nylon(though it does have a reputation for becoming brittle with age/extended exposure to UV light.-All stitching is single.Overall impression:I am very pleased with this product. It exceeds my needs, has great versatility (without the low value/quality 'bells & whistles' of the more 'trendy' packs)and is reasonably priced...a good value especially compared to the more popular 'commercial' brands. The PROs far outwiegh the CONs, and even though it is older nylon/single stitch construction, this designs reputation for durability is well known. If there is one bad thing about it, its that it has such a large capacity, you WILL be tempted to fill it...and before you know it, you will be toting 70~100lbs of gear..no exageration, its that roomy. The only things (in my opinion) that keep this pack from being excellent(5 stars), are:-Nylon...while strong and durable, its just not as strong or durable as newer materials.-Single stitching...goes without saying double stitching is stronger-Only one subdivisions in main compartment. Tons of space and no way to organize it.Recommendation: Strongly recommended. When compared to much of the competition this bag is an excellent choice for either recreational use or as an emergency/evacuation bag. There are some minor compromises, but overall the benefits far outweigh the negative aspects and I have no reservations in recommending it.

ALICE PACK Review
This is one big bag. For someone my size 6'2" and 240, the frame is just a bit small. The bag itself is nice however the underside of the top flap looked like it had been thru hell and back. It was torn and cracked but the rest looks brand new. I had to replace the smaller shoulder straps and belt with MOLLE's. Shoulder straps cut into my arms and chest so bad my arms got numb. About two weeks later I found a site were I bought 2 LARGE ALICE PACKS, W/frame for $50 shipping included, both bags have the larger more comfortable Molle shoulder straps, are BRAND NEW and spotless. Go with a BAG with the bigger MOLLE straps if you can, Far more comfortable. If your looking for a BIG Bug out bag, it does hold alot of stuff... but alot equals heavy. If the bag would have come with the bigger MOLLE shoulder straps, it would be a great bag but after adding MOLLE straps and belt it ups the total price to $90. The 2 packs w/better shoulder straps for $50 shipped was a much better deal!!
