Get Started in Writing Science Fiction and Fantasy: How to write compelling and imaginative sci-fi and fantasy fiction (Teach Yourself)

I have no intentions of becoming a science fiction writer but I do enjoy reading enough that I wanted a peek behind the curtain to see how it was done. Adam Roberts is one my favorite living authors; I could read nearly anything he wrote because of the way he does it. I've read most of his fiction and much of his non-fiction, including the science fiction histories and the recent H.G. Wells bio. This book is just as enjoyable to read, and seems like a practical approach to writing for those so inclined.

Even if I was not to write a science fiction book this was a good read. I love the sense of humor and honesty Adams Roberts puts in his writing.

A great guide for first time writers. It does everything it promises: to get you started in writing science fiction and fantasy, and even goes several steps further giving you a rounded preliminary education on how the world of writing and publishing works. An engaging, informative read which kept me interested throughout.

A good book to get you started, easy to follow and nice to read.

Took me one step closer. This book is written by someone who knows. It is incite full and helped clarify and reaffirm basic ideas with artistic perception. Adam Roberts is a writer, it worried me a bit that he teaches literature and writes Science Fiction but I'll forgive him for that. This book is worth the money which is more than I can say for many of them. My recommendation is always read the sample of the book before you buy. I've published one book and two novellas on Amazon and Co Authored a Compilations of short stories and poetry in the paper world. Sold a few but nothing to rave about. Been writing for a few years now. Read lots of books mostly Science Fiction and am starting to get the idea.

Great writer, and great teacher as well. Perfect balance of practical and philosophical advice.

I have written more through the help and guidance of this book (which is plentiful to say the least). There are lots of writing exercises leaving you with a ton of actual work. Some of these I thought I would find dull to be quite honest, however, I found that I enjoyed them all immensely. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone interested in beginning to learn to write SF (or just in general) or if like myself you just needed to know a little bit more. I can not gush enough over how helpful I have found this book.
