E: A Novel

third reread
Whenever I get tired with the advertising life I read this. It’s woefully outdated but it’s still funny as hell.

Just like a real ad agency
I work in advertising, so this book both entertained and enlightened me. The characters parallel my agency colleagues so well that as I read each email, I could picture a specific person in my office writing it. And yes, I can see bits of myself in the hippie copywriter *cheeky grin* I think it's quite clever how Matt painted such clear portraits of everyone just by using their emails. Beautifully done.

You CAN put the symbol “mail” on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and basically anything else, so WHY can’t you put a symbol “mail” on THIS form? I don’t no.)I was going to write something like,"A fast-paced, wickedly funny tale of office back-stabbing and corporate intrigue that unfolds in a succession of escalating e-mails …”… but someone else wrote that. Shoot.Anyway, great book.- Maureen Twomey

Still Funny No Matter How Many Times I Read It
It's hard to imagine that a story can be told just through email, or that a never ending email chain would be funny. But Matt Beaumont has managed just that. First of all, it isn't just one email chain between the same two characters. It's multiple emails between various members of the same office, which just highlights all the deceit and back-stabbing which goes on when you read that what someone tells one colleague is completely different to what they tell the next one. There is a definite story to it - it's not just inane emails about nothing. This book is hilarious and I can't recommend it highly enough.

One of the funniest...and I ususally don't like funny books (because I don't find them funny)
I originally read this about six years ago when my boss gave it to me. Since I figured I HAD to read it, I started the first three pages and discovered that, to my horror, it was all emails. And about the advertising business. Figured I'd read 50 pages and fake the rest. Six hours later, I finished it and laughed out loud all afternoon.Since then I've given it to at least twenty people in all kinds of careers and they universally loved it and gave it to all their friends. A woman who runs a prominent museum store, a couple of people at my ad agency, a CEO, a President of a cement company, my father, my sisters, a man who owned a prominent research company, his brilliant wife, my husband, an office assistant, a book agent, etc., etc. They all had the same reaction I don't know why this isn't the #1 Amazon best seller. I wold say that the chain I started sold at least 100 books. So buy it everyone, so you can love it too

The "Real" Office
Forget "The Office" on TV - this is the office you want to read about. A relatively "true" story of the craziness behind an advertising agency. All written as a string of emails from the workers. Yes, this was the first "email" book and it's a classic. This is require reading if you work for an agency or employ one. I've purchased numerous copies for friends and co-workers and they all have loved this book. You will too.

Funny
Funny and worthy of the $11. Wish there was a glossary to refer to who is who on characters. Ending needed more of a wrap up, but glad I bought and read, especially when humor and lightness are needed.

Laugh out loud funny
This is one of the very funniest, if not THE funniest book I have ever read. The glimpse inside the minds of the characters and inside their ad agency through their emails has a ring of truth to it that makes their very bad behavior even more hilarious. It is not only laugh out loud funny, but occasionally tears running down your face because your'e laughing so hard funny. If you have any familiarily with the world of graphic design, ad agencies or just send a lot of emails, you'll love it.

Excellent read, very 'then' and still very pertinent 'now'
I bought this as a paperback when it came out at the turn of the millennium. I loved it then and have enjoyed re-discovering it and realising how pertinent it still is today - we haven't learnt a thing in office email culture! It's very funny and you'll find yourself flicking back a few pages to understand why something is now funny that you can't work out why and then get he aha moment.

This is my second time reading this novel. The ...
This is my second time reading this novel. The first time I had borrowed it from a friend some years ago. I knew that this time I would want it to be a part of my permanent library. Hilarious and clever. I look forward to reading more of his work and the work of his wife, also an author.

A really funny book about office life
The kind of book you read in a public place and can't help laughing, and the people look at you thinking you're inappropriate.
