I first read this wonderful biography when I was eighteen...I have loved Vincent and his entire body of work to this day.The print in this edition was difficult to read; and I would recommend a better copy for you, dear reader.Recently, I read an alternative account of the death of Vincent van Gogh which has long been assumed a suicide. I'm most ashamed that I did not retain the link...But, the premise was, and is, that Vincent was murdered by the jealous brother of a young student he had taken on as a student. The piece revealed significant facts unknown to me.These included the easel and paints left in the field by Vincent. And, his deathbed INSISTENCE that NO one was responsible for his death, only himself. This. of course, was in keeping with his nature . . . to blame no one for any of his many failures but his own self.I would be most interested in hearing your personal opinion of this theory. His desire to be a "pastor" to the coal miners is an insight to his true heart.

Well written, as Irving Stone always is. I enjoyed it, and it takes you into the life and mind of a great artist. I was especially touched by Van Gogh's service to the miners--how very compassionate and caring he was. I appreciated the perspective provided and looked at his art, which I have always enjoyed, a little differently after reading this. The book is not graphic, but it certainly deals with some mature themes. I am just old fashioned enough to say that I would not recommend it for young readers.

Great book. Inspired me to seek out the great Impressionist painters of that time in history.

Inspiring

Love the book so far! I definitely have no problem with the content of the book. However, the craftsmanship of the book is poor. As soon as I opened the book the seem ripped. It says this book was proper leather and quality but this is not the case. I am disappointed in the product and the dals advertisement.
