Gorgeous Book, Written Well
If you are interested in the spiritual side of Thailand, and in sacred tattoos, this book will make you happy. It explains the spiritual practice of Thai and Southeast Asian tattoos generally and covers those who give and get the sacred yantras. Great pictures, some history, some controversies, and all written in vibrant English prose. Personal stories of how the sacred tattoos influence the devotees, like the case of a young lady, fortified with a Sak Yant, who bit her sister's attacker, rendering him incapacitated.

Just pictures
Not alot of information on Sak yant just pictures and background story of people who got a Sak Yant. If your looking for detailed information this is not the book for you. If you are in to photography for tattoos its perfect.

Great read.
Insightful with personal accounts on why the tattoos were chosen and written on their skin. And with more in in-depth look at the collective tattoos meanings. Great read.

Photos need better resolution.
While Sacred Skin has over 160 pages of photos they lack resolution; so it is not possible to (clearly) read the Khmer script contained in the Sak Yant. Sacred Skin only has a 20 page introduction and I would have liked to have seen a biography on each devotee's life plus their reasons for recieving tattos. There are a limited number of articles about sacred tattos but it is definately not worth spending your money on this book.*Correction to obvious mistranslation of sak yant as tattoo:Sak Yant is ANY geometric design that has religous significance.Sak Sit means sacred and Yant is from sanskrit yantra meaning line diagram.** You can find Ajarn Thoy Dabos from pages 33-37 at Wat Thong Nai in Bangkok.

Super Livre
