Indispensible
A great beginning reference for novice sailors. Don't stop here, though.

Good Tutorial
I read that this was one of the best books on the subject. At the end of the day, I learned what I needed to. The examples were good. However I had to read some parts 3 times to understand them, and the subject of plotting your position was too brief. I finally figured it out. The author approaches the training as a "How To", without telling why. Maybe with my engineering background the style wasn't quite right for me. But I learned what I needed to and don't know of any better treatment of this complex subject matter.

START HERE. FANTASTIC CG ILLUSTRATIONS.
Concise, really really good illustrations. No wasted words Once you have this under your belt, go to Burch for a very detailed treatment, I did Google some terms where he wasn’t as detailed as I wanted, but you don’t need to do that to grasp the material. I’ve looked at older books by Kelch and Toghill but they lack the illustrations and detail. What I ended up doing was working from this book to Burch, back and forth. You certainly need Burch after this book, if you are going to take a test or actually navigated. Start here.

I am struggling!
Need to read , make notes then get an engineer or Navigator to help you with rough edges, Helps to sale outside for readings. Wish there was a simulator tool for practice learning?

The book dimensions are small. Tables are difficult to read.
I checked this book out from my library and liked it a lot. For me, cel nav isn't something I can read once and get it, so I bought this book. Same good material but the book size is smaller than my library edition and this made reading the tables very hard.

Excellent book but Kindle Edition has issues
Very clear and concise. The diagrams are excellent and make the math simple. The only complaint I have is with the type setting in the kindle edition. In many places what should be a ‘-‘ sign is replaced with a ‘?’ This was very confusing at first but wasn’t hard to deal with when I figured out what the issue was. The book also makes references to pages which doesn’t work well for kindles.
