I purchase this mug for Mother's Day and my mom loved it. The color does actually change when hot liquid is poured in. It's simple but a lovely gift!

It's surprising to me that this nice looking mug is not dishwasher safe. It's my mom's favorite mug (from her favorite - and only - son) but it has occasionally slipped by our screening process and ending up running through a light wash cycle in the machine. One mistake like that is enough to damage the lettering and ruin the mug's appearance. Our hot water isn't even all that hot to conserve energy. Either set the mug on a shelf as an ornament, or be prepared for disappointment should you slip up and feed it to the dishwasher. Had the mug markings been durable I would have easily given 5 stars. I keep checking back on this listing to see if they fix the washing problem, but so far that hasn't happened.
