Really nice, even if not in recovery
I got tired of purchasing Bibles, trying to find a version that was easy to read and understand. Each would say that it was easy to read, but as soon as I got to Exodus, would again be left lost, trying to decipher the meaning of some of the text. Needless to say, I stopped reading. It is a goal of mine to read Genesis through Revelation at least once in my lifetime, but hopefully multiple times.I do not have a substance abuse problem, but many of us may not realize that we have addictions in other ways and to things other than substances. Even if not, I like how this bible is worded. Sure, there may be things lost or added in translation, but before one lets that hinder the use of this book, please remember that the original books of the bible weren't written in English and therefore, it is likely things were changed in translation to begin with. Further, the original KJV (and subsequent versions, such as the new KJV) are translations approved by King James because he wanted to ensure that it conformed to the episcopol structure of the Church of England. Certain books were also left out during these revisions, as they continue to be today. Further, there were earlier revisions, KJV was actually the third English translation. Don't let the fact that the translations aren't purist be a deterrent! This is a great Bible. I'd rather be able to succeed in reading this the whole way through and understand what I'm reading, than to try and navigate my way through a Bible that I don't fully understand without having to stop and do research with a concordance and other tools and reference books that may or may not help. In some instances, I was more confused after reading the reference material than when I started. Having to stop and research has hindered my progress in the past but with this Bible, I predict full speed ahead. I'm already reading and I've only owned it for a few days. Someone I know shared a few passages with me from this book and the language used prompted me to immediately purchase my own copy. I will purchase latter versions, but this time, I made sure to purchase the exact year print and version as the person who shared it, so that I could be sure of what to expect. I am so glad that I did. Even if the translation is "off"(which I don't see blatantly and in context, only minor), the message is clear and positive. I can't see eternal damnation if one were to follow what they find here, provided they also believe and confess. This is now my go to Bible. I highly recommend it, with or without an addiction, whether or not in recovery. I will read it to my toddler and when she is of age, she will receive her own copy.

Stand on a Street Corner; do whateer it takes to GET this book on the Word!
I purchased tis book for my son, a recovering alcoholic as was his deceased father. However as I began reading it I became addicted to the words and the layout as well as the inspiriation and claritydelivered. By the time I finally was able to part with it and mail it to my son (sober 2 years) it was no longer in that pristine nice smell, crisp page condition.Imagine my surprise when a few weeks later my son sent me a kindle. The FIRST book I donwloaded was this bible. In sunday school, I am always the one with the exellent reference poinst to make re: a particular passage. I imagine folks would be surprised to discover i am enthralling them with words form a recovery bible.I think the average American - even if not addicted- can relate to this bible because we all struggle with our own form of addictions. As our government is merely a microcosm of the greater society- our country's leadership is also crazy with addiction and as such needs to read this bible every night before bed in the our nations' capitol. Our leaders need GOD!The people who have assigned themselves the duties and responsibilities of God need to go back to this bible, read the part about the Tower of Babylon and think about the Common Core curriculum being forced down our throats by a bunch of arrogant self-righteous utopian communists whose only aim is to see our country crumble.I am not even an alcoholic or drug addict and I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE this must-have one of a kind bible- even if you have to stand on a street corner and beg to get enough $ to buy it!!!Read it soon though before Common Core removes the ability to read from the public school child!

Life Recovery Bible Saves Lives
The Life Recovery Bible is the foremost annotated version of The Holy Bible which highlights specific recovery issues of alcoholics and addicts of all types. In 1896 a British Catholic priest in China assembled 6 steps of recovery for opiate addicts. The steps were derived from the books of Matthew, I Corinthians, and James. His work saved untold numbers of prisoners of opiate dens. The six steps were so successful that he sent them back to England where a few more steps were added. By the early 1930's, the steps to recovery made it to America to a group known as The Oxford Group. By the late 1940's and early 1950's, two Americans: Bill W. and Dr. Bob, had written the now landmark: Alcoholics Anonymous. By the early 60's Narcotics Anonymous was written. Later, Emotions Anonymous, Overeaters Anonymous, and Sexaholics Anonymous were published.. Today, the word "dependencies" replaces specific forms of addictions. The Life Recovery Bible is the one Bible that unites all groups under the standard of The Twelve Steps. All twelve steps were derived from The Holy Bible. The Life recovery Bible includes a variety of 12-Step focused essays. comments, references, and encouragements for any person seeking to recover from any addiction. This large print version is a comfortable softback, easy to read, and economical answer to Christians with addictions needs, to families and friends who seek to understand and help, to professional counselors who require a Bible in dealing with recovering alcoholics and addicts who are Christian oriented. In the largest sense, The Life Recovery Bible is for anyone who wants to claim or regain his or her life, recovering it from whatever catastrophes. At the core, God, as you understand him, is the enabler of recovering and or restoring broken lives.

The Life Recovery Bible: New Living Translation
I love this Bible! The New Living Translation makes God's word accessible to the contemporary reader without being too colloquial. I highly recommend it for devotional reading purposes as it has excellent accompanying notes.Choose from Serenity Prayer devotionals, character profiles, topical issues or Recovery Principle devotionals which follow a similar pattern to 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous. However, you don't have to be facing challenges with addictions to benefit from these notes, as we are all in recovery from one bad habit or another. Each Bible book has an outline, explanation of the context and discusses of a relevant recovery theme. Navigation through the various topics is easy with indexes and an instruction at the bottom of the page directing the reader where to go next. Marvellous!

A lifestyle Bible
Everybody has issues in life, this Recovery Bible guides you through the 12 steps of recovery, not juts for those who may suffer from addictions, but helps deal with any hurts, hang ups and habits. the principle being is that we are not strong enough in our own will to deal with some of the issues of live and we need to call on our Higher power, Jesus Christ to be our strength and guidance. the principles can be applied easily to everybody and in everyday daily living situations.A wonderful life changing Bible, having been through a Recovery programme I have also seen the dramatic positive change in so many peoples lives.

An inspired addiction recovery tool
I'm not the most diligent Amazon reviewer, but this book prompted me to leave a glowing review - consider it a share for the benefit of my fellow travellers in recovery, regardless of their specific drug or behaviour of 'choice'. I am fairly new to recovery and the 12-steps, and like many addicts coming into the 12-step fellowships, I have come to the idea of 'Higher Power' with a lot of baggage and resistance. I still consider myself on the cusp between atheism and agnosticism, and have also been looking into Buddhist approaches to ideas of 'higher power', inspired largely by the books 'One Breath at a Time' and 'The 12 Step Buddhist' - both excellent guides to integrating mindfulness and the four-noble truths with 12 Step recovery. However, inspired by stories contained the AA Big Book, I made a commitment to side step theological niceties as so many obstructions to progress and to simply explore spirituality in a non-judgemental, non-doctrinaire approach. Viewed in this way, the Bible, no less (perhaps more) than many other spiritual tomes has enormous spiritual wisdom that can be of great help and succour to the recovering addict. The beauty of this version is that it provides well-considered, structured reading cycles corresponding to each of the steps and the 'serenity prayer', as well as much other supporting material, providing a 'way in' to what would otherwise be an intimidating read for those not steeped in Christianity. It is also based on a very modern translation, the New Living Translation, making the text of the bible accessible yet elegant in style as well as profound in content. In sum, I would strongly recommend this book to those coming into recovery who wish to make progress in developing a conception of higher power that is dynamic and non-judgemental. A truly inspired recovery tool.

A Greater Understanding of Recovery
This Bible has enabled me to grow more spiritual. It links the 12 step recovery programme to scripture which gives greater meaning and understanding of recovery. I recommend this to anyone with an interest in the 12 step recovery programme and also to others who would like to learn a new way of living. The step programme in my opinion is the best mental health programme in the world, it can be used to improve all lives not just for addiction. A+++
