This fertilizer works great for bonsai - evergreen juniper specifically, in my case. Yes, it smells like rotting fish; because it is probably made from exactly that. If you do not place it under substrate it will attract a fly or two; however, within a week or so, it becomes crumbly and can be ground into the soil and isn't as much of an attractant. Re-application is between three to six months, depending on conditions. Some reviews are critical of this products use in houseplants. I cannot understand why someone would poorly rate a product designed for bonsai (which is almost exclusively grown outdoors), when they are using it for indoor houseplants - it is Bonsai Fertilizer after all.

I got the fertilizer today it got here on time and seems good obviously we wont know for a while weather its good or not. I bought this for a repot I'm planning this spring so I'll probably update this reveiw this summer to let you know if this is Super-OK-or poisonous. lol I'm sure it will be great! Until then Thanks.Update: It seems to be working well my little trees are green as ever. Id say its Good stuff Going from 4 star to 5! Will update if things change.

Really improved the growth in my two bonsais.

I am not happy with this. The producer states "a few people complain about the earthy scent." That might be an understatement. The truth is, this stuff smells like dog poop and it starts to mold really fast. I don't know whether it works as a fertilizer because I did not want to leave moldy smelly stuff on my bonsai. 10 dollars wasted for nothing.

I have three bonsai, and they have all significant new growth since I applied this product. I like that it is not made of harsh chemicals like some other brands I've used. Also, you get a lot in the bag, so I put half in a jar to keep at work and keep the other half at home.

I bought this a month ago and sprinkled on my bonsai at work. Works like a charm. I can tell it is working because of the amount it has grown in such a short time. Highly recommended!

Great fertilizer. Specially good for all junipers and black pine bonsai trees. I have been using for a number of years and it does not get any better.
