Great sturdy cutting board

Update (exactly 30 days after purchase): The board is already warped. I have always kept it dry, even installed 1/2 rubber feet underneath it to make sure that the back side does not get wet when the countertop may be wet. It is an disappointment that it is a beautiful board from a well known company,Original:The board has a good balance between size and weight for home cooks. It is not too big to fit in the sink for cleaning, yet offers a good amount of surface for food prep. The quality of the lumber is excellent. There is no knot with good color consistency. It is made of 5 pieces of planks glued together, fewer than most wood boards of this size. The fewer glue joints, the less likely to develop separation in the long run. The surfaces are both side are finished smoothly. The type of wood is Acacia, which is harder than most common types of wood cutting boards, namely teak, bamboo, walnut, ash, oak and maple. But make no mistake, a knife will make a mark on any wood cutting board at its first cut. However, the harder the wood, the shallower the marks.The board comes finished with some sort of varnish or wood stain. There is a water repellent property to it. I tried to apply mineral oil on it, but it would not absorb any of it. I tested it with Goof-Off on the back side, and found that the real color of the wood is quite a bit lighter than its finished color. So the finish is not any kind of penetrating oil, but I don't know what kind of finish is on it. Giving Vikings brand name behind it, I trust that it is safe.
