Too much filler ...
I'm not going to spend too much time on this review because there are good reviews already posted that point out the shortcomings of Access 2007 for Dummies. The first third of the book is devoted to explaining what controls are and the simplest, most basic concepts that only a person who had never run a Windows program would find to be educational. I mean, do we really need to know what buttons and pick lists are and how they function? ... how drag and drop works? Give me a break! We'd like to know how to create and use these controls within Access, of course. But that's not really addressed. Most of what you can learn from this book you could figure out easily by inspection. The online help is decent and available if you get stuck. After buying way too many books on this subject, the ones I found most useful were: "Access 2007 Bible - Groh et. al." Access 2007 Bible This is a monster tome and at least half of it is dedicated to VBA programming. But it's clear and well written and covers every topic. The second is "MS Access 2007 Forms, Reports and Queries - McFedries." Microsoft Office Access 2007 Forms, Reports, and Queries I bought the Kindle edition and have mixed emotions about the implementation on Kindle, at least the Kindle App on the iPad. The information is exactly what most people will need to know knocking out a useful application. But, the illustrations are very hard to see and do not expand. However, the links to different parts of the book are quite useful. I wish I also had it in paper back.Unless this is the first time you've used a computer, Dummies is way too simplistic. And, the jokey approach is really lame, not informal, just dumb. I know it's the format, but this comes off like sixth grade humor. It's a matter of taste, but I find it distracting and irritating. My opinion is that there is about an hour's worth of skimming that might be helpful for the truly uninformed but to create any kind of working application you will need to read other, more informative books.

Access 2007 for Dummies
This is the second "Dummies" book I've purchased from Amazon. Every book I've ordered from Amazon has always arrived when promised and always in mint condition. As the advertisments for the Dummies books claim, they're an excellent source for reinforcement for what you already know, or an easy to understand and follow book if you're new to the subject. The Access 2007 for Dummies is no exception. I took a seated class on Access and SQL. Access 2007 for Dummies made my understanding of the subject matter complete. The book is a good reference for experienced Access users and I would highly recommend it for the beginner in addition to the text book you're using for the class.

On came the lightbulb
I had to learn Access if I wanted to keep up with the times at my job. I've had databases built for me and have had other employees try to teach me Access but it never really clicked! I purchased this book and created a test database. As I read, I went through all of the steps and suddenly, the light bulb came on. It was so easy to follow and understand.I just ordered Access 2007 VBA for Dummies and I can't wait to get my hands on that one too. This book has literally made my job 10 times easier!

Probably useful for those new to MS Access -- Worthless to "Old Pros"
The cover blurb states "Access has undergone an extreme makeover! Agreed. However, the next sentence is "Whether you've used one of the older versions orthis is your first exposure to Access, here's where you'll find the essentialsyou need to make this database system work for you." Agreed only after the"or".The problem is that it is really very difficult to write a book in the "ForDummies" format without making the flow of information assume no previousknowledge. A special marginal icon flagging points that are new to 2007 wouldhelp the "old pros", but probably just confuse the newcomers. There are better ways to bring yourself up to speed on Access 2007.

Want to learn Access 2007 today? Look no further..
As with all other books in the "For Dummies" series, this breaks down the learning curve into smaller, more easily-digestible chunks.I highly recommend it, if you're looking to learn Access 2007 with a minimum of time and effort. Had me completing my first real database with forms and drop-down lists within an hour.

Very Helpful
Just what I needed to migrate from Access 2003 to Access 2007. I would definitely recommend it to others new to Access 2007..

Made explaining Access to coworkers much easier.
I have been using various versions of Access for many years. This book was primarily for others I work with who have no database experience. It was a great help when I tried to explain what Access could do and made it easier for them to tell me what information they wanted to obtain.

Good for what it does.
Needed this because the software I have access to (no pun included) is this and it helps when you aren't looking for bells and whistles that didn't occur until the next iteration. The layout of these books is good for quick skimming, which is what I needed after several years of non-use. I don't particularly identify with the "Dummy", the publishers seem to think I am for buying their product, but I have always found their books consistent and haven't presented me with any particular problems.

Very Disjointed
I think that this book expains the basic elements (no VBA etc) of Access 2007 but does not link them together to give an understanding of what Access can do. I think that this book was so bad that I have had to buy another book to get an understaning of Access.

A great book if you're already an expert
If you're already an expert in using access this will be a great book. However if you're an expert you wont need this book. I assumed, incorrectly, that this was a book for beginners, its not. This is less use than a chocolate teapot, for at least you can eat that. This is probably the worst book since my last dummies guide, I should have learned !

However I am not very good with IT but as the title is for Dummies ...
I expected something a bit easier but struggled with it straight away. However I am not very good with IT but as the title is for Dummies thought it would be a bit more straight forward.
