Living on the Devil's Doorstep: International Adventures

Speechless!
Floyd and Sally McClung loved like Jesus did. Their bravery was astonishing. If we could all live like they did it would be like heaven on earth! I knew them but had no idea what they really did. His mother recommended this book to me. I loved hearing Floyd preach. His father, Floyd Sr. pastored our church. What a wonderful fabulous family.

Well written, easy to read, but powerful enough to make me look at how God wants to use me
I love the encouragement that comes from seeing someone share their journey. God never promised an easy life, and it is great to see the Church wanting to love like Jesus. The writing and flow were very good in the book. When I had five extra minutes I was reaching for it, curious to see how God was going to be faithful in their next step. I encourage any believer who wants to be challenged to read this.

Floyd McClung, Living on the Devil's Doorstep: From Kabul to
This book is part of YWAM's International Adventures series and deals with the McClungs' mission to Western travelers in Afghanistan and subsequently in inner city Amsterdam. Originally published in 1988, the volume offers current updates to Floyd McClung's biography (at p.[202]), but does not explain why he left Amsterdam for Colorado in 1992 to found All Nations Institute, or why he assumed the pastorate of Metro Christian Fellowship, neither of which would appear to be following C.T. Studds' desire "to run a rescue shop/ Within a yard of hell" (see p. 201). It is certainly McClung's right to follow wherever God has called him, but some explanation of this mission change in the new edition might have been useful. McClung's account of his Afghani experiences (at pp. 15-97) supplements the book he co-authored with Paul Conn, Just Off Chicken Street (1975) and provides a useful, if slightly external, view of the Hippy Trail which ran from Europe to India in the 1970's (see p. 22). Like so many earlier missionary accounts, the book is useful as an anthropological/sociological account as well as in a religious sense. The second half of Living on the Devil's Doorstep (at pp.99-201) deals with the McClung ministry in Amsterdam. This was initially established to reintegrate converted travelers into Western society and to prepare Christian volunteers for the outreach process (at p. 97), but it led to a series of outreaches, including work in the city's red light district. Again, a unique view of this area is offered, although, as noted above, the story of this particular ministry remains incomplete.Samuel Pyeatt Menefee

Amazin
The story of a missionary back in the 60's/70's working with traveling hippies on the "Trail" from the Eastern world to Amsterdam. He was working with people addicted to drugs, sex, and searching for answers. This book is just his stories of how he lived life and what happened to them, how God provided, how Satan attack, and how he did his best to follow what God was calling him to do in a very difficult place. Amazing stories and it makes you really look at where your 'safety' is found. The author is the man that started the ministry Youth with a Mission-for those that are interested

What a powerful family who put their lives on the line daily to spread the gospel and help humanity.
Every Christian needs to read this book and then ask themselves what they are doing to help others come to know Christ.

The best !
This book is one of the few that I recommend to all people seeking God's will for their life. It;s is truly an adventure and a testimony that proves that the devil is defeated and that those who believe in Jesus are on the winning side as He the Lover of mankind. Great book, worth buying, recommended to you and 'mature' followers of Christ.
