Works but needs improvement
-Background, this is the second device i got, the first was a different Chinese brand but identical in all aspects, [same layout, same buttons, same labeling], just different 'brand' and coloring so I got this. The old one worked for the first time i tried it, then after storing it for a few months and trying again the unit failed to 'stay on'. Something about the power switch. So hope i have better luck with this one. I 100% recommend the square trade warranty for these items!!-Got this device to facilitate pulling sound off a PS4 as it goes into my home theater box to send to my 'ol X Rocker gaming chair 4.0. This was the only way to do this for PS4 and this chair. My main complaint is lack of decent documentation for what the several features actually mean and do, so it was trial and error trying to find the right combination of settings to make the signal work. This process was made more difficult because apparently there's a warmup time for the unit to actually pass the video signal through it, and back to the home theater unit. I couldn't figure out why i could hear the PS4 audio but not have any image on the TV. So I kept waiting and changing settings until the image just 'popped up'. So for those that are struggling, you have to press the 'CM' to 'on' mode, confirm with the light on the unit, then wait approx. 20 seconds to over a minute for the image to pass through the device then display on your tv. Not sure why it takes this long to simply pass data through the device, but that's what happens. I think i have all the other stuff 'on'. ARC, 5.1 etc.-The only other thing, and i can't really confirm this without perhaps taking pictures, is that when using this as a pass-through for audio, i swear the image of the game i'm playing seems a tad 'fuzzier' than if it were going straight PS4>Home theater. It's supposed to be 4K@60Hz / HDCP 2.2 but i swear the signal passthrough is downgrading the video signal just a bit. Overall, it works for what i needed [to have sound to my chair, and as a bonus i still get sound to the home theater-recommend balancing this to hear all speakers equally. Just wish it displayed the image faster, had better documentation [example setups would have been nice] and the assurance that the image wasn't downgraded by this device.

Finally, Dolby Digital 5.1 without a delay to Sonos
I spent a lot of time concocting ways to get around the fact that there is no way (currently) to deliver Dolby Digital 5.1 over the Audio Return Channel without a processing delay. On my PS4 I used the Optical Output of the system to deliver it straight to the soundbar and send HDMI to the TV. With the new Series X and PS5, neither of which have SPDIF outputs, I needed a new solution.Enter this thing. You can send all your game consoles to this, route it's output to the ARC channel on your TV, and send the optical straight to any sound system. Throw ARC on when you aren't using your game consoles, and turn it off to get sweet surround sound without the horrible delay. It actually does what it says it does, it isn't $200, and it doubles as an HDMI switch. Pretty astounding for less than 40 bucks. So far no issues. The only thing is having to switch ARC on and off when I'm not using it, but that's a small price to pay for solving all my other issues with Sonos. Great little product.

A nice unit, probably best in class, but...
Despite what you read, you are not going to get E-AC-3 (Enhanced AC3) to pass through this device. If you have an NVIDIA Shield TV and are suffering the lack of a SPDIF TosLink output, and you're Netflix, you're going to have a bad time. The only way to get surround sound out of Netflix (and some other apps) is with E-AC-3. SPDIF just doesn't have the bandwidth, and most older receivers that don't have HDMI can't decode E-AC-3 anyways. The statement of having a super high-end optical cable may be true, but how do you find those? I bought the best fiber I could find, and still it doesn't work.

Perfect for multiple devices and automating switching inputs
This device is perfect for use on ultra HD 4K tv's that you have 1 or 2 ports rated for "best" input. Most TV's only have that available, but you would need to choose which device that you want that output to show on. This allows for quick and easy auto arc switching when new devices are detected, and allows for audio passthrough to your reciever in any format you choose (2.1 or 5.1 surround). I use it as a audio passthrough for my PC to the SPDIF, and it works flawlessly.

Perfect for those with voice/video syncing issues.
I used to run my apple tv, cable box, blu-ray into a hdmi hub, into my TV then the audio to my Sonos PlayBar. Problem was that my TV introduced lip sync issues. Now everything goes to this device, the video goes to the tv and the audio, now being split out goes directly to my Sonos PlayBar. No delay in sound and the lip sync issue is completely resolved. Great device!

Did not transmit surround via optical to my receiver.
Unfortunately, this device did not work to connect my legacy Yamaha Aventage RX-A3010 receiver via optical audio. Using both a Radeon VEGA and a nVidia GTX 1080 Ti to output a 4k signal, only stereo mode would be detected in Windows with this device. Even plugged-into my TV, Windows shows full surround, but going through this device limits Windows detection to stereo only. I use an HDFury Integral 2 now, and it allows full surround detection through a second HDMI output for audio (192kHz 24-bit sound).

It worked as advertised
did exactly what I was looking for. I have an older Pioneer elite receiver , no hdmi or optical connection, wanted audio, now I have it.
