Outstanding value
I'm a serious outdoors person who lives on the north side of New England's White Mountains and at the northern tip of the island of Newfoundland. I am out in the wild cold icy snowy weather almost every day of the winter--and spring. In addition to hiking on very icy trails, I need additional traction for work around my homes and walking out on the ice on the big ponds/lakes and frozen ocean. For some years I've been using the original and excellent microspikes. But when a link broke on my pair, I had to decide if I wanted to spend that much money again, now that I'm in my 70s and slowing down. So I thought I'd try these. After two months of using them a couple of times a week, I'm impressed. Traction is excellent and not one broken link yet. Even though I get the recommended size, they seem a little loose, so I marked em down a star. Not sure if I'd be willing to trust my life with these, as I did many times with the originals, but for non-severe use, they work just fine. Recommended.

Cleats under heel too narrow.
After wearing the cleats one time, I gave them a "5". That was based on the feeling of security they give. The second time wearing them, I noticed that my foot tended to twist, I suppose like a lady wearing high heels. As I inspected them, I believe the problem to be that the cleats under the heel are too narrow. The cleats under the sole are nearly as wide as the shoe, but that is not the case with the heel.I think that the heel section is even more important than the sole, as that is what hits the ground first. So, from my perspective, these cleats, even though well made, are poorly designed.

Exactly what i needed
We moved into our new home at the end of October and my new chicken coop is downhill. The first wet snowfall I fell on my way out, rubber muck boots don't have much traction on wet, snowy grass. I put these on an older pair of barn boots and leave them on so I don't have to fight them off and on all the time. I have no fear of falling on my way up or down the hill, carrying gallons of water down and eggs back. In deep snow they can gather large chunks of snow which is easily dislodged with a slight kicking motion.

Great Value.
Great product, I don't know how they compare to other crampons, but they've gotten me through some trails that would have otherwise been unpassable. I wish they were a little lighter, but I don't think that would be possible without increasing the cost or decreasing the quality. I take them with me every time I'm hiking in potentially icy terrain.

Held up to a 12 mile hike
Used these to Hike South Sister in central Oregon. the snow that was there was all ice in the morning and snow in the afternoon so we had to keep them on for the full 12 mile hike. they worked wonders and held up really well. The case is nice so they do not rip up anything else in my pack when not in use.

Works great
Spikes are much better than the kind with springs for hiking on uneven ground. These stick into the packed trails at most angles and hold you there. The down side to spikes is that you have to pull out sticks and pine cones that get impaled, but it's worth it for better grip.

Good Traction
These are great! My husband and I visit Alaska every summer and these are a must-have for glacier hikes.
