The key to it being effective is to make sure the barrel has enough of a lip for the cinch cord to grab onto and seal. Note that some barrels have a reinforcing web (for lack of a better term) that extends from the top of the handles to underneath the perimeter lip. You'll want to notch these to allow the cinch cord to seat itself hard against the underside of the lip. Good luck!
