Second-hand 11-year-old parts repackaged as new
I bought this DVD-RW for my MacBook Pro. It Was detected automatically but as soon as I inserted a disc it started making a horrible grinding sound.I unplugged it and had to take it apart to retrieve my disc. I then discovered the drive was second-hand, covered in scratches and scuffs where it’s been thrown around between being removed from a recycled 10-year old laptop, and ending up inside a USB-C caddy and sold on Amazon as “New”.It’s an absolute disgrace that a worn out drive manufactured in 2009 can be sold in 2020 as a new drive!

Failed after 3 months. Internally an old drive.
I bought this drive to rip a few old Audio CDs to FLAC. It worked great for the first 3 months. However, one day it went "clunk" when I put a CD in, and it refused to eject. I carefully dismantled the device and noticed the drive itself was an old TS Corp drive, manufactured October 2008 - a 12-year-old drive which I was lead to believe was new.

Works as described
Worked straight out of box with NO setting up, very fast on USB 3, can hear it run but not noisy, quality build and an excellent price.

Not great.
Would only read 1 in every 10 CDs or DVDs I put into it. Other reviews indicate this may be an old possibly second hand drive repackaged in a new USB-C enclosure. I didn’t open it to find out (I returned it) but that sounds entirely possible.
