Wonderful!
Writing with rich, and often sensual, imagery, Octavia Randolph captivates and delights the reader with her eloquent and extensively-researched account of the legendary ride of Lady Godiva through the village of Coventry in the eleventh century. Written from the perspective of the pious noblewoman herself, Ride presents the reader with intimate details of her life and times. This Ride is truly worth the price of a ticket.

Lady Godiva's Ride was NOT a Romp!
The legend of Lady Godiva has passed through history with no definitive explanation of WHY she made the (in)famous ride. Octavia Reynolds has done extensive research and reveals that WHY in this lovely novella. She has structured the story in such a way that the reader becomes a participant, sitting beside and observing all that Lady Godiva sees and does. The Lady's "home" life, the request to her husband, his proposal and her acceptance, the lovely countryside, especially her people with glimpses into their personal circumstances, even the weather conditions, all coalesce into a picture of empathy and willingness to humble oneself to help others. Ms. Reynolds weaves the Legend, the History, Biblical implications, patriarchal and societal mores into a lovely tapestry to present a more compelling Lady Godiva than has heretofore been available. This novella points out that there are women throughout time who have made a huge impact on history as our civilizations have developed and subtlety maintains that those women have been denied their due because most of the chroniclers of history have been "men (who thought the world was flat" - E. Butterworth).Further, the author includes details of her research, which give Lady Godgyfu a different persona than has travelled with her for millennia and answers questions that may have been raised in the novella itself. "Ride" is a keeper to be read again and again, and encourages the seeking out of other legends, particularly of women, of whom we know very little. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

I'm glad I stuck with it and overall enjoyed the book
It took me a bit to get into this novella. It's structure was confusing at first. But after about 1/4 of the book, I really began to get immersed in Godiva's character and ended up really appreciating the perspective given by the author of her relationship with her husband. I'm glad I stuck with it and overall enjoyed the book.

So interesting
Well researched, beautifully written, and altogether a very interesting read. Ms Randolph enriches the storyline by interweaving other historical characters during the Lady's ride.

Wonderful details
I really enjoyed this book. A quick read but filled with vivid details and imagery. I really got a feel for that tumultuous period in history. The historical notes at the end were an added bonus. A great way to spend an hour!

Fascinating story
Loved the realism of this book, plus how it is presented as if you are with them of this time in history. Octavia clearly loves this history and ensures her readers do also xx
