Tubex 4' Tree Shelter, 25 Pack

I own a tree farm as a hobby, we recently had a harvest including a clear cut and a few group openings. I bought these to protect my new trees...I know it's like bring sand to a beach. Anyway, I planted 75 black walnuts for future generations inside the group openings and the clear cut. My conservation plan ended a few months after the timber harvest, the state forester, NRCS, and soil and water people agreed a new plan had to be written. When my TSP (Technical Service Provider) came out to inspect and discuss the new conservation plan after the harvest he complemented me on my choice tree tubes. His words were "these are the best...you can't go wrong with these". He asked why I choose these, I explained that I was a former engineer in the auto industry and examined the construction of these before I made my purchase. He agreed on their superior construction but also added that they are very expensive. My 75 black walnut trees cost around 55$, these tubes cost several hundred. It's an expensive proposition to buy these, a lot cheaper ones are available. I live in a very rural area and the deer are rather dense with light pressure. My farm backs up around 500 acres of no mans land, so I wanted to protect those black walnuts. I used bamboo for stakes, which I will have to replace after a year or two.

What a great idea. We planted 20 baby trees in the spring. 10 have already reached the top and are still protected from the deer up top and the voles at the bottom. The top net is the perfect solution to prevent birds from getting stuck in the tube. We planted the saplings, pushed the tubs deeper then the ground level then added mulch around the outside to prevent weeds, voles, moles, etc...from getting to the young trees. The remaining evergreen trees are still working on growing but they are protected from the rest of the grasses and critters. Every once in a while I do have to gently remove one to pull out a large weed or grass stock that enjoyed the protection as well. But replacing it was not difficult. I do recommend using the bamboo stake to prevent wind or the deer from knocking them over and damaging your saplings. I'm eager to plant another 20 trees next year!As these work, you protect them as they are young and vulnerable yet as they grow they push the protective netting off the top and but the protective sleeve stays in place. As the tree grows in girth it will split the perforated sleeve. If this wasn't the case these saplings would be vulnerable to all sorts of damage from the elements and wildlife.

Was supposed to come with netting. They did not. Very disappointed.
