Powerless (Control Issues Duet) Paperback – February 24, 2014

Too much time was spent on exposition. I don't mind exposition if it builds mood, is fun to read, or drops tidbits of information that create dramatic tension, but this was more like a mildly explicit journal entry that went on for too long. This includes the preliminary scenes that should have been building toward the main event, which had a couple of good moments but a low re-read index.The main event was quite nice and definitely re-readable. The situation and plot were well-traveled, but that is not a drawback when the details are diverting.As a straight read, the language flowed well, but there were three things that got in my way. 1. Using last names for the first half of the text and first names for the last half was more confusing than intimate. Changing horses midstream doesn't work. 2. The main character's given name is Carol Anne. This name has two common connotations: baby boomers born in the mid-1940s (think of the dentist's secretary on Bob Newhart, or "Bob and Carol and Ted and Alice"), and the little girl from the movie Poltergeist. The name hinders the character more than it helps her. 3. The title makes a promise that is not kept in the text.Those minor quibbles aside, this was a fun read, and I will definitely look for more from this author.

Carol Anne doesn't want or have time for a relationship. She is perfectly happy living in her corporate world and having sexual relations with her gorgeous assistant Mark. He is just perfect for her and the best part is that he is fully aware that this is a "no strings attached" relationship. But when Carol Anne goes to interview the prospective secretary Cindy, all thoughts of Mark go out the window. There is just something about Cindy that gets Carol Anne's juices pumping.... Who would have known that a female could cause this much of a stir. With her relationship with Mark now questionable and a few chance encounters with Cindy, will Carol Anne go to the other side and enjoy the forbidden fruit of Cindy?Want a quick steamy read that will get you going? Well Powerless by Liz Gavin will do the trick.This quick novella took me about 30 minutes to fully read and sets the reader up for a later story with the same characters. This was a read filled with passion and lust featuring a turn of the tables on a powerful and Dominant woman. Every scene and sensation in the story was described in vivid detail. There are elements of frustration that build into stress which later are relieved and the cycle begins again in ways that keep the reader engaged and infatuated.The characters were deep enough that you could connect with them and fleshed out enough to add an element of realism to the story.The story stands alone without needing the support of another tale while at the same time it will leave you wanting more. Fortunately, there is a sequel to add another layer. I love it when a book can support itself instead of ending on a cliffhanger and ruining a perfectly good story.I only saw a couple of tiny proofreading issues within the tale, but nothing that would distract from the story and I have to praise that because of how deeply I appreciate the proofreading and editing of an erotic short story when so many authors choose not take the time to handle that.Frankly this could, to date, be my favorite D/s erotic short.

A busy stockbroker doesn't have time for relationships but cuts out some time with what she calles "boy toys". Her current one is Mark and he has never failed to satisfy her. However, now she's starting to fantasize about a certain young new receptionist. Never been with a woman before this throws her into situation she's never been in.Denying her attraction works sorta well until a hott shower scene after a gym workout.I enjoyed this quick story for what it was, however I don't usually give more than 3 stars to a short story. I would most likely enjoy a longer story with these characters but as this as it is 3.5 stars.I liked how she was dominating with Mark but got to feel that "powerless" feeling herself with that hott shower scenes between the two females.

In Powerless the high powered boss of a stock company on Wall Street finds out how good it feels to release her need for control in a sexual exchange. She has several sexual encounters in the story and finds she enjoys being with another woman, which she had never tried before. I enjoyed the emotional depth of the main character and that it was well written more than the subject of the story.

This was a short, steamy read about an powerful female executive having the hots for her female PA when she never wanted to be with a woman before. Not a ton of back story but just enough to let us know what kind of person our MC is most of the time.I probably won't read it again but would definitely recommend it to someone looking for a short erotic read to steam up the windows for a few minutes.

4 smutty stars.This was just the fix I needed M/F and delicious F/F action. Not a lot of plot but very well written, and edited, and smoking hot erotica!Why not five stars - The first chapter was a little rough, with the chick talking to her dildo, and I don't think the cover is a very good representation of the story.Will I check out more by this author? Hell yes

I'm unsure how I feel about this particular book. Carol is a boss that sleeps with two of her employees. This book is steamy to say the least. I personally enjoyed the beginning but I'm not a person who enjoys reading about same sex lovers (i have nothing against them in real life just don't want to read about it). Good book though.

This is a short story that is before Upside Down, with this book we get a peak as to what's in store for Carol and we see that Carol is such an independent woman who can achieve anything she sets her mind to. She seems to be quite happy with the arrangement that she has got going on with her PA Mark and even though he gives her anything that she desires she can't help but wonder one afternoon what it would be like to be with another women.This has never been an issue for Carol before but she can't seem to stop thinking about what it would be like if she could have Cindy. But after the one encounter with Cindy things change forever, how will Carol react to everything that's going on.This book will leave you hooked from the very beginning. This book isn't part of a series, it's a stand alone novel, you don't have to read this to read Upside Down but I would suggest to as you can see what your in store for. I love Carol as a character as it's not everyday she is in a situation where she is left powerless and has no idea how to control it, and I hope that you love Carol and the story as much as I have. Liz Gavin you have done such an amazing job with this book.

Great read

Liz Gavin does it again. Another wicked hot erotic read! A MFF triangle of very HOT and raunchy sex. Recommended.

Putting it bluntly, if you want to get your rocks off then give this short book the 20or so minutes it deserves.

Very enjoyable short read consisting basically of 2 different sex scenes with some good story around them.
