Alone with an Escort

I am of 2 minds about this story, Alone With an Escort by Angela Claire. This is a new release an expanded version of a story printed in 2014. If you pick up the story based on that cover expecting an erotic romance you might be disappointed because this is a straight-up romantic suspense thriller fueled by mistaken identity. Fortunately romantic suspense  is my favorite romance sub-genre.Jonathan Vale it's a super -spy working for a top secret US government agency. He is sent to rural North Dakota in the middle of winter supposedly to protect a lovely young research scientist Dr. Veronica Bartlett from some unknown threat. The same day that Veronica is waiting for a male escort that a friend of hers has sent to her to celebrate her 27th birthday. You guessed it Veronica assumes that the hunky man showing up at her rural farm house in the middle of winter is her male escort and confusion ensues. Jonathan finds the confused scientist quite attractive but pretty soon bad guys show up in bullets start flying (and body count goes up) and they are running for their lives. He doesn't know the nature of the threat toward the scientist and like a good soldier, he doesn't care to know.I enjoyed the snappy dialogue and the story had a great setup. The twists and turns kept me guessing. The body count adds up pretty quickly however as Jonathan is forced to do away with bad guys who are chasing them across the Midwest. Some readers may be put off by the violence. (I don't think the book is being marketed correctly). Still, I found it an enjoyable read & would consider reading more from this author.

Loved this story. This is another one of those books where the author keeps her mind set more on the characters than the scenery ; saying this, the author has a rare gift of giving short details of the scenery which developes, in my mind, as CinemaScope. I highly recommend this book to readers who love Romance - Sex- Secret Agents- Suspense!
