Every so often a product is released that makes people say, "Why didn't I think of that?" This item certainly fits that description. It's the Self-Defense Lanyard by Hayes Innovations. At 7 inches long, it attaches to a keychain to create a personal safety weapon much like a flail. It's similar in concept to an elderly woman swinging her purse at a thief, but much more effective. The developer, responsible for the safety of Americans overseas, was struggling to find a solution to the constant threat of robbery and attack to Westerners in crowded African markets. Since it was impractical for people to carry a club with them at all times, it occurred to him that a keychain with its substantial weight and multiple cutting edges suspended from a strap could deliver a solid impact yet be carried inconspicuously. Aside from the convenience of retrieving keys easily from a pocket or bag, it's nice to know that there's a weapon at your fingertips if approached unexpectedly. It's also reassuring to carry a defensive tool through airports while on business trips, and not worry about raising suspicion. With all these advantages one would think that a Self-Defense Lanyard would have hit the shelves long ago, but fortunately they can be had now for an insignificant price. What's not insignificant is the feeling that you or your loved ones have a means of protection should the need arise. * Note: Must have sufficient keys or other items for impact
