there aren't enough stars to properly rate this...
From the very first notes of the first song "Media Person"...you are literally pulled-in and aurally assaulted with some of the finest punk music EVER created! i'm not talking about bands like Sex Pistols or Clash...that's different...this is abrasive, well-crafted, politically aware and brutally honest, from the point of view of three young men who grew-up in England at the peak of governmental upheaval and political need for change...along with bands like Crass,(who helped nurture R.P. in their inchoate stage of development...), and Subhumans(UK)...Rudimentary Peni will go down in history as the progenitors of Anarcho-punk...Ep's of R.P. contains the bands first [2] EP's-"Rudimentary Peni" and "Farce"(which was produced/engineered by Crass' drummer Penny Rimbaud)...here we find the finest example of the bands song-writing and explosive aggression...If you were stranded on an island and had the choice of any record in the history of records to listen to...THIS SHOULD BE THE ONE

RP's best.....to me at least
Rudimentary Peni are one of the most unique and memorable bands to emerge from the late 70's/early 80's anarcho-punk scene. Unlike their peers, RP walked a fine line between crust punk and death rock without falling into either classification easily. Imagine a crazed mental patient writing Crass inspired political songs while reading Edgar Allen Poe (to whom their album Cacophony is essentially a tribute) and you'll get a good idea of what this band sounds like. Singer/guitarist Nick Blinko is a diagnosed paranoid schizophrenic, and the band even wrote one of its later records (Pope Adrian 37th Psychristiatric) while he was staying at a psychiatric ward. While RP's subsequent efforts are more artistically accomplished, I always end up reaching for this disc for a quick and satisfying blast of British crust punk played the way only Rudimentary Peni can. The album's black and white artwork (courtesy of Nick Blinko himself) is a nice treat too. Very disturbing. This CD, as the title implies, is a compilation of Rudimentary Peni's first two EPs. Tracks 1-12 are from their eponymous 12 song EP, sounding like a more abrasive, demented, and macabre version of early Subhumans (UK). The songs are mostly midtempo, old school punk styled tunes with eerie riffs, slick, prominent bass lines, and harsh, screaming vocals. Tracks 13-23 are from their second EP "Farce"; these songs are better produced, but I felt that the first EP had a certain raw and gritty charm to it that this EP lacks as a result. There's also more of a focus, albeit slightly, on slower and more drawn out melodies than on their first EP. The drums in particular really shine here. In general, I tend to prefer the first EP, but Farce is still well-worth the price of admission on its own. Also pick up Death Church and Cacophony, and you'll have all the essentials. Check out their later work too, if you're still hungry for more.

SO FRIGGEN BIZARRE, I LOVE IT!!!!!
Not being the ultimate punk fan that some of my colleagues are, I have to say that I really dig these guys RUDIMENTARY PENI, as I have come to know them. This stuff was recorded, I believe sometime in the early to mid eighties, when punk music had a definative nasty tone. However, what seperates these guys particularly for me, is the psychedelic bottom sheet that is placed underneath the surface. The album isn't very long, but what is contained within is excellent. The sound is very good (for a punk record that was probably recorded in the back of an alley somewhere) and the songs are tight. (There are also other RI albums that sound completely F'd up after you listen to this, like Death Church, that album is a lot more about noise thrown into a mess,.... but still I like it too.)The stuff here seems to have been recorded while the band was under a little more clarity, and thus the songs show signs of musicical creativity. Much more easier to understand then Death Curch. The atmosphere here will transport you to a weird new place, which is what I love the most about it. One of those bands that almost seem like they are really just in your head and are not actually real. I personally think that the two EP's contained on this disc are brilliant, but I will warn you, the themes are pretty strange. I am glad that this stuff is available at Amazon. You don't need to be a deep punk'r to get down with this breed of rockin tunes.Maybe a little bit sick in the head, maybe.

The EP's of RP
Rudimentary Peni-The EP's Of RP *****Rudimentary Peni's The EP's Of RP is one of the most astounding collection of Hardcore music ever. RP single handedly bridged the gap between classic original punk, hardcore punk, everyone of those genres off shoots, and The EP's is the best example of this. The combination of attitude, fast and sharp musicianship, with intelligent lyrics created one of the most important and outrageous movements in American history. RP are one of the forgotten heroes of the time who paved the way for so many more. This collection of hardcore is essential to all interested in the movement.

A perfect piece of punk rock
One of the most original groups from the anarcho-punk scene. They created a perfect, demented universe and these tracks are twisted, poetic, fuzzed-out and fast. This is a wonderful piece of punk rock history. Hard to find but highly recommended.
