NOT BRIGGS & STRATTON, NOT 2.5GAL. UNACCEPTABLE SUBSTITUTE WITH FAKE LABEL.
The gas can being sold is NOT the one in the Amazon listing; it's not even the same brand or size: it's 1.8gal instead of 2.5gal, made by Plastics Group instead of Briggs & Stratton (despite the fake B&S label and the B&S model#). I bought this same Amazon listing before a couple years ago, and it was a real Briggs & Stratton, 2-1/2 gallon, with a similar spout except the spout didn't leak (like this cheap knockoff leaks) and had an end cap to seal the spout or the main cap when you put the spout back inside the can when not in use (the end cap on this cheap knockoff was made wrong and doesn't stay on the main cap, just falls off, not sealing the can at all when not in use!)This inferior can is a poor substitute for the original B&S model# 85023. It is made by The Plastics Group, who stuck a fake B&S label (with the old B&S model# 85023 on it), and it's not even 2-1/2 gallon anymore. In fact you can't get more than 1.8 gallons in it (despite the CHANGED Amazon listing title and description to "2+" instead of the original title "2.5" gallon) unless you overfill it (dangerous due to lack of expansion space), and even then you can barely get 2.0 gallons in (by force).I actually liked the original gas can of this listing here (it still says for me "you've bought this item before in 2010" with this ASIN#), but Amazon and all these sellers should really set up a NEW listing (a new ASIN#) with the proper specs. Putting this useless knockoff under this listing is DECEIVING.By the way, you can buy this same exact cheap knockoff can at any Wal-Mart (or almost every other store) for a much lower price than here on Amazon (no shipping costs either, just sales tax). Don't bother! The original B&S 2.5 gallon model#85023 gas cans, while no longer made, can still be found on other websites (while they last). Wish i still had the ones i bought in 2010: they got stolen they were so nice... even drilled my own vent and installed my own vent cap ($1.00 for a wingnut/bolt combo at any hardware store) and modified the spout to get rid of the spring action so it'll pour easily with no fuss (something you still have to do with these spouts, as it's impossible to keep pushing on it hard to engage the spring opener you break or tip whatever you're pouring it into or else break your arm... just cut the green thing off, take apart the winged valve and remove the spring inside then put the winged valve back on.. of course you still need to seal the can when not in use... find a cap from a different gas can... or better yet you can buy a regular spout kit from several places online that'll fit the cap threads of these (though they don't have the angle at the end of the spout like this one does - necessary if you're pouring into a horizontal tank like a generator)...or hey even better yet, DON'T BUY THIS! Best advice i can give. Find a truly larger can (real 2.5 gal) and put your own spout on it.Here's another idea if you've already bought one: put the whole thing in a fireplace outside (empty of course, no gas necessary as the can material itself is flammable (gee!)), melt it down into a blobby red mess (with a bit of black and a spot of green), and mail it to the Plastics Group with my comments (or you're own if you're so inclined). Have some fun! They burn good on a summer night on the beach!

Extremely Poor piece of Junk
Right out of the box, it didn't work. The green ring was hard to turn. The black tube was hard to plunge. Holding the pieces in my hands, I was able to turn the green ring and plunge the black tube, but not all the time and certainly not without trouble.Eventually (within 10 minutes), the two pieces of the black tube separated. Trying to put it back together forced the safety flapper (which prevents gas from pouring until in position) was pushed out the bottom.Maybe I can get it back together and maybe I can get it to work as it is supposed to work. More likely, I will have to get rid of the flapper so that gas will pour freely in all circumstances. Which means it will operate as the old style of gas cans -- except that it has a very short spout which means I'll be spilling gas or using a funnel.Extremely pour (ha ha) piece of junk. The one plus is that the container itself is very sturdy and will last for years if not decades. Too bad the government-mandated pouring system is such a horrible disappointment.Would definitely not buy again.Update: I was able to reassemble the pieces of the spout. Now I can get the plunge the black spout as I pour gas. The bad news is that now I cannot turn the green ring at all. The black tube does plunge, but it doesn't return far enough to clear the green ring. But it plunges.Additional bad news is that it leaks. With the top securely fastened, it leaked from the seal of the spout while I was carrying it home from the gas station. When I noticed, I stopped and cranked down the cap even further, and I was able to walk the rest of the way home without it leaking again. When I poured the gas, though, it still leaked. I'm almost 60, but I'm a big guy. I turned that cap beyond the point where it catches the safety clip which prevents the cap from unscrewing itself. I got it about a quarter turn past that point, and it stopped leaking.I wouldn't be happy with this gas can if I got it for free.Another Update: There are two comments to my review. One is from the company offering to make it right. The other is me turning down their offer. Sorry. This is like a bad relationship. I don't want you to make it right. I want you to go away.I have a gas can that is designed to last for decades, and I have a spout that didn't work right out of the box. And that means I need another gas can. Junk. Pure junk.
