Art: Over 2,500 Works from Cave to Contemporary

This is a great book, and has tons of pictures, covering all of the movements/ism's and major artist. It breaks down a picture often and describes 4 or 5 focal points in many of the most important paintings. It also shows timelines of each major era and the sub-moveements in that era, and expounds on the most important and influential artists of each era. I liked how this book also focused briefly on the driving influences occurring in the world surrounding a movement and each individual artist, which is interpretive, and what I personally value a lot. This would include how one movement led to another, and how one artist affected another. Can't think of anything I'd like to see changed. It's about 10" by 12" and nearly 2" thick. This is great grand picture of how art developed over the centuries, and a perfect starting point to go off on separate studies where your intersts lie from here.

Beautiful full color pages and very informative about the artists. I bought this used with no problems to the cover, dust cover and pages. Worth every penny spent.

A Christmas gift for Jackie Evancho that was absolutely fabulous. I was inspired to send her a visual art gift when I saw a drawing she'd done of a hand which impressed with its skill and originality (surprising for such a prosaic subject). I took a chance on this book and consider it one of the luckier bets I've made. Buying a second copy for my son who's become interested in art. It's informative, thorough, and beautiful. PS. Listen to Jackie Evancho if you're not already a fan.

Art: Over 2,500 Works from Cave to Contemporary is one of the best art history books I've ever read. It includes excellent photography of the artwork and sculpture from the beginning of the world to the present. Along with the photos are detailed descriptions about the artist who completed the works. It even has analysis of how the art was created. For anyone who needs a comprehensive reference of art, or simply is an avid fan of art, this book is near perfect. My only criticism of the book is that it's heavy. But in order to include this much spectacular history, its evident there is no other way to do it. I recommend this book.

I have read alot of art books but this one takes the cake! lots of color reproductions of many masterpieces. very educational and specific. I have seen art in this book I have never ever seen before, it is an exciting journey of discovery in the world of Art. forget television, this is a real entertaining and exciting experience of wonder. I love this book, I highly recommend it.

nice big book. sweeping scope. i like the parallel time lines. you can get a feel for what art was going on all over the world at the same time. the intro sections with art vocabulary with beautiful examples is great. i used these chapters as art lessons with my kids, who are 7 and 9 y.o. i like the background stories on the artists and the art history on the movements and ideologies. now my kids can pick up more when we go to the museums.

For its price I thought that it would be a little book nice enough to see now and then but it is very complete, big and nice quality. Most of all lots of information nicely narrated and easy to understand. It is very complete. Is almost a course of art history and apreciation. Very happy with my purchase.

This is not a book for those who just want to see full page paintings with descriptions. However this is the book you need to learn art, movements, the most important paintings, what the author meant with it and fully illustrated and a lot more stuff about art. Once you read it you wont look at art the same way and feel comfortable talking with experts. FYI this is not a pocket book, its big, heavy and colorful.

More than I expected. Big and beautiful book with good quality pictures. I'm so happy for this purchase. I don't get tired of reading it. Totally recommendable!

Good book

This is a very comprehensive, visually stunning survey of world art that includes both painting and sculpture through the ages. If you are looking for an informative art reference book then this is for you.

Very thick, detailed book. Lots of photos and information. I'm interested in art as a hobby and found this book a great way to dive in.
