I was looking for a very light weight monopod. I needed something I could take with me to conventions and use with my phone so that I could steady the videos. I haven't gone to a convention with it, but just playing around with it at home (putting the phone in it as if I'm going to film something in front of me, and sitting it either on the ground, on my knee, or even on the chair between my thighs) has so for made videos very steady compared to just holding the camera as still as I can on my own. The true test for it will come in September when I give it a real workout.As for using it for selfies, it seems to work great for that as well. When it is at full extension, it does get harder to hold steady due to the weight of the phone but with a little more practice in finding a good steady grip and position to hold my arm (elbow close to the body makes it steadier and works best so far). When it is stretched out at shorter distances it is very steady.The phone seems to be fitting in there pretty secure so far. I took someone's advice from another review and super-glued the rubber thing at the top of the phone holder part so it wouldn't get lost. I'm not sure if it would have been a problem or not, but since I knew I couldn't be using it without that rubber piece, it made sense to go ahead and make it permanently attached.

Okay, I am always skeptical about buying anything without reviews - whether it be on Amazon or any other website. I took a chance with this item and was so pleasantly surprised! It did exactly what I need it to do - take pictures from far away. This is perfect for couples who enjoy doing things together but don't necessarily want to keep asking people to take their picture or even keep asking when it came out terrible because the stranger you asked had his finger blocking the flash or had shaky hands. My boyfriend & I used this on a hiking trip where finding someone to take our picture would be difficult to begin with. We got to the top of the mountain and were able to take a wonderful picture of ourselves and the best part is you can't even tell we took it! If you angle it the right way and hold your hand low, it looks amazing! Tip: Download the Camera+ app and use the timer setting.My only compliant is that it's incredibly sturdy in the pole part which is good and bad. Good because it's obviously sturdy but bad because I feel like I may break it when trying to rip it open. The top piece that holds your phone is also a little loose (even though I keep tightening it) and the holder could be a little tighter. All in all, it's amazing but with a few manufacturing tweaks, it would be perfect.EDIT 7/10/14:It seems this item has changed slightly since I was the first to review so I just wanted to quickly update. I have the blue pole "Sold by Esaci and Fulfilled by Amazon". It's still going strong and I still use the timer setting on the Camera+ app in the Apple app store (so you don't need a remote).

I have used the selfie stick using different devices: iPhone 4s and 6 plus. It does hold up when it wants to but you have to fiddle with the screw all the time. I almost dropped my iPhone 6 plus because this stick swung around while I was taking a selfie in London. Thank goodness I have grea reflexes. The plastic surrounding the screw has already cracked. It's cheap and it was okay for the times I used it. But I'm sure there's better selfie sticks out there -- so get those instead.

Bought this selfie stick for an upcoming Summer trip and I am so pleased with the quality and sturdiness of this! Not sure if other people received less than perfect selfie sticks but mine works excellent. Will also fit with an otter box or any other protective case on your phone. Shipping cost (3-5 days) was worth every penny as well, as the order was placed the 27th and arrived the 29 (a Sunday!). Very excited about my new purchase!

Broke after one use.

It does hold my phone for taking pictures but there is no way to remotely "click the shutter" and without that you may as well hold it with your hand. But you can buy a little remote clicker in addition to the stick and then try to keep track of both, not good. It works but not very useful.

I didn't think I'd use one of these myself after making fun of the two girls I saw using it, but truth be told this thing is awesome! It is constructed very well, the extension goes up to 3 feet and mounting a GoPro camera doing a video selfie is fantastic! I'm glad I discovered it because it definitely makes GoPro videos that much more enjoyable now. The length of the stick reduces vibration which is a plus. All mechanisms on the stick is tight and does not feel loose and wobbly. For the price, it's a must have! Now I wonder if it'll hold my Canon 5D Mark 3 for those creative shots... ;)

This was useful for taking selfies while traveling abroad alone. Keep in mind, it is cheap. I handled it delicately and it survived and worked well. I'm sure there are more heavy-duty options available, but for the price and objective, it worked well and I am pleased with the purchase.
