Not bad but nothing exceptional!
A decent read, however I knew already many of the things posted in this book. I think the author may have wanted to beat Stephen Davis to the press by getting this out before his bio of Ms. Nicks is released in October of this year. There wasn't anything earth shattering about this book that warrants 5 stars. I actually didn't finish it there were about 4 chapters I just stopped reading due to already knowing what was going to be said. When reading a celebrity bio a reader wants the meat and potatoes, the unknown facts of a famous person's life and work, so while not an awful read, hey at least she can spell which is an exception on kindle these days and I'm very serious when I say that. I try to be fair regarding book reviews and while Zoe Howe obviously did investigate Ms. Nicks life it felt rushed and did not have the depth one would want in a bio, especially since Stevie Nicks will probably never write her own life story. In this book Stevie comes across as selfish, narcissistic, and the typical me, me, me that many famous people end up believing in their own hype. I at times found myself not liking Stevie Nicks the person and I am a huge fan of hers. There is a part in this book where Stevie tells one of the (I believe producer/sound engineers) that she was happy his dog died because his dog was the one featured on the Tusk cover because according to Stevie Nicks that should of been her cover, not cool if true and extremely telling of the personality.I liked Carol Ann Harris book much better. I found out things I didn't know about Ms. Nicks and Fleetwood Mac. There simply was not enough details in this book to keep me entertained and while I did appreciate the sense of humor that went into this book added by the author's perceptive most of what was written about regarding Ms. Nicks life, Stevie has talked of in interviews and has already been written about. If you're a new fan this book will serve you well, older fans who already know the Stevie-Lindsey love hate etc. etc. with tons of filler I'd say wait for Davis book.

Fun Summer Reading
I also read Mick Fleetwood's book (which is a wonderful read) and Stevie's accounts are much like the lady behind Fleetwood Mac, she is very kind and selective of the words utilized in her book. Anyone who has been to a Stevie Nicks concert knows how fun she is to listen to and watch. While Mick's book holds no emotions back, Stevie's accounts, except for Lindsey, are far more tame. Even in regards to Steive's account of Buckingham I think she is way to kind. The guy just seems like a real mean individual and the only one who ever really puts him in his place is Christine McVie (Go Christine). While I love the group Fleetwood Mac, from all accounts they probably would have done well to replace Lindsey Buckingham with someone who wasn't so hell bent on destroying Stevie, the very person who is responsible for much of the attention and success of Fleetwood Mac (my words not Stevie's). Anyway, a fun book to read...you will enjoy finding out facts that had never been made public before about a very interesing indivdual who has captured the world with her unique voice.

A truly open book on Stevie Nicks
The book mingled atmosphere with intimacy as it always kept you in the room , not only with Stevie Nicks, but with those who shaped her life as well as her singing and songwriting career.

Stevie Nicks
Have read this book twice. Good read. Just wish she would have been more open on her relationship with Lindsey.

I LOVED Stevie's music
I LOVED Stevie's music, both as a solo artist AND as a member of Fleetwood MAC. AND, Having been involved in 'the biz' as an artist and as an exec, I knew and worked with many of the same people. In fact, my ex and I were a duo at the tinme, named Fir & Rain, who came from the Valley as well -- so you can imagine the degree to which this book dealing with Lindsay and Stevie's relatiuonship hit me. So naturally, this book was quite interesting to me -- a real page turner. I liked Zoe's conversational writing style. This is a fun read for anyone who was there -- or was affected in any way by Stevie's music -- and that's just about ALL of us.

authorial tone not for everyone
Contains a decent amount of information, has clearly been a labour of love and is pretty good on the actual songs - but be warned about the style. The ingratiatingly matey tone, quirky chapter headings (fashion tips, horoscopes, life advice and suchlike) and endless needy gags and asides might charm some readers - but if you hoped for a degree of seriousness, or that the subject of the book would dominate more than the writer, the effect is exhausting and off-putting. Read a sample first and if the breathy teen-mag voice is not for you, pick a different book! because it really doesn't let up.

Poor
I found this book poorly written and glosses over the main parts of Stevie's life that should have been the most interesting parts. I am surprised Stevie is happy with the finished article. It simply states facts (and not even all of them like why her and Don Henley split up, for example), leaves out important details and doesn't give Stevie's point of view and how she felt. There is sometimes a poor attempt at humour which often doesn't fit and the writing is more like journalism than a biography.

Badly Wriien
Hate it when biographers pretend to know what the subject and all around them are thinking, you don’t so why pretend? Found this authors style extremely annoying and even though I’m interested in the subject I had to abandon this book.
