Can you turn the thermostate off and plug it in before filling** A: Yes, it does have a probe, but I would not plug in the heater until you start putting water in the mattress. I believe there are pool heaters and birdbath heaters on the market if that is what you are looking for - but, please do NOT use this in a pool! **Q: Does the unit come with all power cords?** A: It had everything we needed, cords, thermostat and pad **Q: can this be used for softside waterbed** A: This is a "Full Watt" unit, which typically means 300 - 325 watts--the spec for a hardside waterbed heater. This is not the unit for a softside bed.
